The CIO aims to further the Christian religion and the benefiaaiies of the CIO will be those purchasing and accessing Christian books and assoclaied SoUrCes- and these can be individuals, thurches. schools and other organisations. Customers Include pastors, church leader5, bible students. mi55ionaries, youth worker5 and the general public. The maln retail outlet is in Newton Abbot. Devon, wlth other outlets auoss South Devon indudin8 book agents and bookstslls located in thurthes. The ao also Provides bookstalls at conferences. exhibition5. festlvals and other Community events. At the date of thbs report, the CIO has not fulty taken o¥er the operation of ChoKe Words. The planned sthedule to do was further delayed by the ongoing impact of the pandemic during the early part of 2021 and also due to the continuing abseno of one of the trustees and co-founders of thoice Words during thi5 reporting period after her hospitalisation for three months from October 2020 to January 2021. Government restrictions continued including a further national lockdown from January to April 2021 and during thls period, the shop and outlets remained closed. No booksLIll events took place during the year and all of the Choice Words church outlets remalned closed ihT¢)u8hout the year. The main Newton Abbot Shop redUd its openin8 tlme from six to four days per week from early November due to the shop manager bein8 hospltalised and off sick. However. an onllneltelephone order and delivery ser¥ice was operated for customer5. As per the previous public statement confirmlngthe intention of the CIO to take over the day to day running of operations, the trustees havecontinued to actlvely operate fundraisin8 activities to make this happen. As part of this process, a section of the Newton Abbot shop continues to be dedlcated to second hand book sales, the proceeds of whlch all go dlrectly to the CIO. The trustees also continued to operate the Frlends of Cholce Words scheme throu8hout the year where customers and supporters pay an annual or monthly membershlp subscription to be a Frlend. the proceeds of which go directly to the charSty, enablin8 CUStomer5 to support the charlty and acce5sin8 speciflc member benefiis at the same time. The Choice Words CIO websSte, launched in 2019. has continued to be the main public online face of the charity. Ongoln8 emall communications with the Friends and also communlcatlons via Choice Words, Facebook page have contlnued to raise the proflle of Choice Words C]0 and awareness of the chariWs mission and lOn. Despite the thallenges described durln8 the 12 months to 31 January 2022. the net income for choi Words CIO was only sllghtty down on the prior 12 month period and the tash at bank has continued to Increase.
