FiLiA PROJECTS
HAGUE MOTHERS
11 has been a seriously busy year for the Ha
ue Mothers, campaign which aims lo end the injustices CaUs￿j
by the Hague Abductlon Convenllon Irealy, especially for mothers and children who are victims of domestlc
violence. The international volunteer team is now around 70-strong, and we are working with 15 partner
organisalions from around the world.
And there has been real progress.
Along with GlobalARRK, we went lo The Hague lo lobby outside the Hague Speclal Commission meeting in
October 2023. We handed in a #ProleclHagueVictims petition with 38,000 signatures., gave out copies of our
Mothers. Voices bookleL created a￿ O
n Leller calling for change which was signed by 90 world experts,
and which was circulated lo all delegates,. and encouraged mothers to write lo Ihe Hague Secrelary-General
to raise awareness of the brutal impact of the Convention. Moved by their Stories, he offered lo organise an
international forum on Domeslrc Violence and the H8gue Aljjuction Convention in South Africa in June
2024.
Hague Mothers, GlobalARRK and partners Revibr8 Europa were inviled on lo the Steering Group for the
Forum and were able lo ensure that our expert members and allies were invited lo present on all bul on8
panel. Frfteen of us attended in person. two presented online. We also coordinated a 'lived experience. pand
session which was extraordinarily powerful. We created a video of rnolhers, voices from across the worfd,.
Revibra produced video leslimonies from three Brazilian mothers,. and two immensely courageous Hague
mothers shared their stories in person.
In his closing remarks, the Secrelary-GeneTal acknowledged that domestic violence is the major issue facing
th6 Convention. Whatever else comes out of the Forum, il will no longer be possible for those implementing
thg tr?aty to argue that nothing needs to change.
We will shortly begin preparing for a follow-up forum which the Brazilian government has offared lo host Sn
2025. We will do all we can lo ensure that this moves beyond information-sharing lo effective action. And we
have just heard that we have been awarded one year's funding from the Treebeard Trust which will mean
that we can employ an admin assistant10 5UPPOrt the voluntary coordinalor rde. That will make a world of
differ6nce lo our efficacy and scope.
Our 2024-2025 strategy focus on the human rights abuses enabled by the Convention - for both mother5
and their children. Our overall aim remains the same and requires (Js lo ch2nge an internAtional treaty
signed by over 100 countries,. FILIA absolutely believes that the international sisterhood can and will achieve
this goal. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has halped us gel this far.
WOMEN FIRST
FILIA has conllnued to make good progress with the work of Women First.
We completed an audit for a county in Wales and recelved posillve feedb2ck. As part of the audit, we
deliveTed training lo professionals and carried out questionnaires with staff and managers. We are confident
that our recommendations, once implemented, will improve the local response for any woman who Is
engaged in the sex trade.

FILIA
REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES cont'd
We held our first in-person away day, bringing together our volunteer survivors. It was a great opportunity lo
gel to know one another a bit more and remind us of why the work of Women First 18 so important.
We responded 10 several 'calls for evidence, regarding proslilulion. This Included contributing lo the report of
the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls,. submilling evidence to the National Police
Chiefs Council guidelines,. and most recently, giving feedback on the Proposed Proslilulion Bill being brought
by Ash Regan MSP.
In addition lo this, we continue lo raise awareness around prostitution as male violence both within the Male
Violence Against Women and Girls sector and the general public more broadly. Our inaugural Women First
blog was published, and we delivered a workshop al the Nordic Model Conference, supporting professionals
working with women in the sex trade.
We wrot8 lo the Musicians Union asking them to rethink their stance on prostitution and offering SLJPPOrt to
further understand the issues that women in the sex industries face.
GIRLS GETAWAY
Organised by Southall Black Sisters, nia and FILIA, the Girls Getawa (designed for young women and girls
aged 11 to 17 years old, from diverse and vulnerable backgrounds) look place in Eastbourne.
A variety of workshops fooused on critical topics such as leadership, idenlily, brmly image, sisterhood,
societal pressures and sexual harassment. The program included indoor and outdoor activities that fostered
teamwork and creativity. Participants enjoyed arts and crafts, leam-building exercises, and nature
exploration, which enhanced their enjoyment and promoted physieal well-being and conneclion with the
outdoors.
The Girls Getaway 2024 provided a Iransformalive and enriching experience for all. 11 gave a platform for
self-discovery, connection, and empowerment, all away from everyday societal pressures and within a
supportive and safe space.
The Girfs Getaway promoted personal growlh, confidence and peer support. By cultivating a sense of
community and belonging, lastin9 friendships and SUPPOTI networks developed Ihal extended beyond the
event itself.
LA8RYS Lrr
In 2024 we continued a pluralistic focus in reading lesbian books together- thriller, hi$loriGal, science-ficlion.
classlc Itterature, Young Adult- enabling women lo appreclale the richness of lesbian culture. Feedb8ck
from members consislenlly indicates that they find enrichment in being connected lo a broad selection of
stories. Thls year we increased the minimum threshold of books wrillen by women of colour and working-
class women lo four per annum, continued lo feature a translated text, and added the new criterion of at
least one book written by a woman when she was over 50. And while this added a signrficant logistical
challenge lo preparing 2025's readin
list, owing to systemic biases of the publishing industry, it is deoply
rewarding for partioipanls.
FILIA LEGACY PROJECT- CAMPAIGNS and POLICY IFLP-CP)
The year 2024 saw FILIA prepare lo move into the campaigns and policy space. We securèd three years of
funding for the FLP-CP. This project was developed in response to consislonl and increasing feedback from
women who have allend8d our conferences. Women have arliculaled a plea that FILIA become a prominent
force in ensuring that women's views and concems are heard by UK politicians and policy makers.
The FLP-CP'S primary objectives are to ensure that..
Grassroo15 women's voice5 are heard by UK policy makers
Women are confident and know how lo campaign for their rights
FILIA is seen as a trusted source for mobilising women's voices and action
Community leaders are trained and lake up places in policy forums

FILIA
REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES cont'd
The FLP-CP commissioned a range of research to ensure that FILIA has an authentic understanding of the
current concerns of women and the issues that affect and are important lo them. The research phase
included a thorough literature review of women's concerns and the baffiers lo these being acted upon In
local and national pdicy spheres, and we also commissioned new research lo understand the Pfiorily issues
and actions for women active in the trade union movement, recognising the role unions have to effect
change.
We also held numerous training sessions in FILIA cities called Powerful Women Organising for Change
about power.- how il works. how to build it and how to use it.
The FLP-CP project is now entering its implementation phase in early 2025 and the creation of the FILIA
Women's Assembly is imminent. A range of training, round tables and other events will be held in FILIA citie5
across the UK,. cities where FILIA has previously held conferences. FILIA will also engage with women
nationally online as the FILIA Women's Assembly gains pace. The FLP-CP will ensure Ihal in addition to
supporting women themselves lo enter the policy and campaigns sphere both locally and nationally, FILIA
will also represent and advocate for women in a range of national policy forums and b8 valued as a credible
2nd authentic voice, influencing pollliclans and decision makers.
FILIA In JAPAN
For the third year running FILIA travelled to Japan as part of our global work lo support and share kft0￿edge
and expertise with our sisteTS fighting prostitution and pornography. specifically foousing on teenage girls
exploited by the sex industry. The visit was organised and supported by femini81 abolilionisls in Tokyo.

FILIA in MADRID

delegation to Madrid lo march in Solidarity with thousands of Women. FILIA also mel with various key
feminist activists with a view to building understanding and 801idarity.
KAKUMA
At the beginning of the year the increasingly homophobic policy and practice of the government in Kenya
and the reduction of seNices within the Kakuma refugee camp, made lrfe increasingly difficult. Six women
had lo go into hiding as they became aware that as aclivists. they were due lo be arrested for'promoling
homosexuality,. Another group decided that as their cases had not progressed in years Wlthin Kenya, that
they would seek asylum in another country. We were able {with our inlernatlonal sisters) to support with rent
for six families as well as travel and basic shelter.
We have continued lo advocate for safe passage and in August, Reginah and her children were the first lo
be relocated lo Canada. Two other women from Kenya have followed since then. In November, Brenda, a
woman from a different country also got her passage, along with her little girl Tracy who we helped to bring
into the world as she required an emergency caesarean. We continue lo give support with rent in Kenya and
food, medicine and sanitary supplies for the women and children in the other country. Thanks lo our sisters
in Europe and America who help us raise these funds. We are also grateful for the generosity of sisters
around the wodd for donations and lo our volunteers who raised funds via a sponsored cycle ride and the
Raise Our Voices event. We remain hopeful that some of the sisters in the other counlry will also start to be
relocated in Afflerica as more asylum cases are sellled.

Basis of independent examiner's roport
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity

The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an a￿dI1, and
