In planning our activities for the year, we kept in mind the Charity
Commission’s guidance on public benefit at our trustees’ meetings.
The focus of our activities in our eighth year was to continue to
strengthen the links with educational establishments and other agencies
in both countries. The planning of post Covid student volunteer visits to
South Africa has also been a priority. Five visits to South Africa took
place during the year, four with student volunteers from four different
institutions. Work was completed to incorporate Newcastle College as a
new UK member of the Bambisanani Partnership
In collaboration with Rotary Clubs in the UK and South Africa work has
continued to develop ICT provision at Mnyakanya High School.
Preparatory work has continued with Mnyakanya School and South
African partners to develop a Sports Pitch for the school and wider
community.
Work has continued to embed the ‘Cycling to Success’ programme and
indeed expand it to other areas in partnership with KZN Cycling. A formal
partnership was signed with KZN Cycling
The Bambisanani Athletics Challenge involving primary schools in South

Africa and Leeds has developed from a successful pilot programme to become an annual event involving even more schools from both countries.

Extensive time has been invested over the last year developing existing partnerships and developing new ones with a view to future collaborations, including with the KZN Department of Sport and Recreation, KZN Department of Higher Education, KZN Cycling, South African High Commission, British Council, Global School Alliance and the Sport at the Service of Humanity Foundation. A close working relationship has been developed with fellow Yorkshire sports-related charity, The Jordan Sinnott Foundation. Members of staff from St. Mary’s School, Newcastle College and a Trustee from the charity undertook a Research and Development visit to South Africa with a view to expanding links with colleges/universities and KZN Cycling as well as preparing to re-establish student volunteer visits to South Africa for summer 2023.

The charity has worked closely with Mnyakanya High School to establish bursaries for particularly deserving students to attend university The Bambisanani Partnership was invited speak a two major International Conferences about its work. A variety of fundraising activities have taken place with an annual Dinner being introduced Post all the Covid-19 restrictions and frustrations this has been a highly productive year for the partnership.

Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)

Grant making : The Bambisanani Partnership is essentially not a grant making charity but where financial support is given, we always seek to obtain an element of funding from South African sources as well as our own. This is an important principal for our charity and ultimately seeks to build capacity and empower the communities that we work with in South Africa. By not funding any project 100% continues to ‘lever’ additional funding for the community led projects that we are engaged with. In every sense we believe that this brings considerable added value to our work.

You may choose to include further statements, where relevant, about:

Volunteers: The Bambisanani Partnership has no employees and as relevant, about: such continues to be run entirely by volunteers. During the past year  policy on grant making; more than 50 volunteers in both countries have contributed in various  policy programme related ways to the ongoing running of the charity and the provision of our programmes and activities. Many of these volunteers are serving investment; teachers or lecturers who have skilfully included, and in many cases  contribution made by embedded, the work of the Bambisanani Partnership within their volunteers. educational establishments.
