Charity number: 1163460
Charity name: ANATHAPINDIKA TRUST
Trustees' Annual Report and accounts May 2023 – Apr 2024
During this financial year the Trust continued to receive donations on behalf of the Triratna Buddhist Community in Venezuela including donations specifically to help Achalamati (Ricardo Rico). As Achalamati’s circumstance have changed and he is now living in Spain I approached the donors to see what they would like to do with the money. They are happy for it to be used to help the other Order Members in Venezuela, who also have difficult financial circumstances.
The only sources of income for the trust were donations. This financial year we did not apply for gift aid which was an oversight.
From the funds not reserved for Achalamati, the Trust made payments towards the running costs of the Merida Buddhist Centre and to help with the refurbishment of the centre.
Our Chairman Michael Shaw is now based at the Guhyaloka retreat centre in Spain, but visits Merida every year to review the activities of the Buddhist centre.
The charity has no other activities at present.
New trustee
This year we welcome Patrick Flint (aka Prakashamitra) as a new trustee of the Anathapindika Trust. This is in anticipation of Andrew Goodman (aka Mahamati) resigning as a trustee which he will do once Prakashamitra has been able to take on his role. We wish Patrick Flint (aka Prakashamitra) to be added to the Natwest mandate and to have full access to the account. I would like to thank Mahamati for all his work to help set the trust up and keep it going at a complicated time.
