During this financial year the Trust continued to receive donations on behalf of the Triratna Buddhist Community in Venezuela including donations specifically to help Achalamati (Ricardo Rico) who dedicates his time to helping the Buddhist Centre but whose pension has become valueless due to the hyperinflation in Venezuela.
The only sources of income for the trust are donations and gift aid repayments from HMRC.
Other than the donations earmarked for Achalamati, there were two other types of expenses that we covered for the Triratna Buddhist Community in Venezuela. The largest of these was travel expenses. We paid for a Venezuelan who is training for ordination into the Triratna Order to visit Spain to participate in retreats and also some of the costs of ordained members of the Triratna Order to visit Venezuela to work directly with the trainees. The second type of expenses was to help with some of the running costs for the Buddhist Centre, principally to carry out urgent refurbishment making the most of the fact that the centre was mainly closed due to the COVID pandemic.
During part of the year our Chairman Michael Shaw was still at our Buddhist Centre in Venezuela and thereafter at Guhyaloka retreat centre in Spain. The charity has no other activities at present.
