Thornborough and Coombs Woodland Enterprise Trust 4 Thornton Road, Thornborough, Bucks, MK18 2DE

Dear Friends, 03/05/25

This year has been eventful for us Foresters. While many activities have proceeded as usual, significant progress has been achieved in several key areas. Highlights include the drafting and approval of comprehensive Risk Assessments for Volunteers engaged in Woodland operations, covering topics such as machinery use, woodland activities, and interaction with visitors. The Trustees extend their appreciation to Ian for his substantial contributions.

As previously reported, our efforts to partner with East West Rail (EWR) on biodiversity initiatives were concluded following EWR’s withdrawal from the scheme. The Trustees express their gratitude to Charlie for his dedication regarding this matter.

In other developments, increased donations have contributed positively to our financial position. The Treasurer noted that ash felling resulted in a notable windfall, and we aim to expand future sales while respecting local producers. This year’s accounts reflect the final payment for the new ATV and a major contribution towards constructing the new Quarry footpath. Despite this expenditure, the Trust remains in credit.

The ongoing impact of Ash dieback remains the principal focus for volunteers, guided by Andy Spurr, Ian Mitchel, and Charlie Ledward. The Forestry Commission continues to oversee our work and has approved our ten-year Woodland Management Plan, which formalises and sustains current operations. We remain appreciative of the continued support and partnership with the Brompton Valley Group.

During the year, Rupert Bursell retired as a Trustee. His legal expertise and thoughtful guidance will be greatly missed. Ian Mitchell, a longstanding volunteer, has succeeded him, and we welcome Ian to the Trustees.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all Friends of the Woodlands for your ongoing support. The generosity of our donors enables us to preserve and maintain the woodlands throughout the year.

Thank you once again.

David Parker Chair of Trustees
