Chairman’s Remarks.

Welcome, this year has seen the departure of our Secretary Mary Taylor. Mary was one of the founding Trust members and she will be missed. We are currently seeking a replacement and hope to make an appointment in the New Year.

The year has also seen the Trust working on a number of projects, large and small. We have upgraded the Depot through the replacement of the old shed doors with security shutters and have continued to purchase specialised equipment to help with the maintenance of the woodlands. We now have a new roller which will help us to keep the pathways open and passable through the winter months.

The Depot has also seen the renewal of the septic tank system which we share with the occupants of Brickyard Cottages. Thanks to Charlie Ledwood and Henry and David Goodger for planning and delivering a system that should last for another generation.

Thanks must also go to our volunteers who led by Andy Spurr and Charlie Ledwood have cleared all 2.5 acres in the top wood ready for replanting. This has been a major operation, interrupted by Covid, and is a credit to their perseverance. Following a period of lying fallow we hope to begin replanting the area in the winter of 2022.

We have been actively fundraising over the past twelve months with the replanting in mind. We have made successful applications for funding to Tesco and Local Giving but have been rejected by the Woodland Trust. Despite the desire to plant more trees in the UK it would seem that funding is not as easy as it seems. We are now registered with the Rural Payments Agency so maybe that will be a route to new funding.

It is important to thank the private donors that have promised trees including the Bucks Bee Society.

In other fundraising there will be a meat and traditional Christmas raffle in the next few weeks, thanks to Sarah and Andy for getting that organised.

As is usual we now come the re-election of Trustees. Due to the gap left by the departure of Mary the Trustees have decided to postpone this that will be reinstated when the position is filled.

David Parker

Chairman.
