## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES**

## **YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2023**

The Trustees have pleasure in submitting the Report and Accounts for the year ended 30 September 2023.

## **Objects of the charity**

The object of the charity is to advance the Christian faith by providing leadership training and development for those involved in Christian ministries.

## **Organisational structure and partner charities**

New trustees are recruited and appointed by the existing trustees, by a majority vote.

The policy and operating decisions of the charity rest with the Trustees who meet regularly to monitor the activities of the CIO.

Forum of Christian Leaders UK CIO partners with Forum of Christian Leaders, a 501(c)3 non-profit organisation based in the United States, in order to pursue their mutual object to advance the Christian faith by providing leadership training and development for those involved in Christian ministries.

The charity also partners with the European Leadership Forum, a coalition movement of hundreds of Christian organisations working together in network across Europe.

## **Summary of the charity's main activities and achievements**

The charity advances the Christian faith by providing grants to support the activities of their partner organisation, the Forum of Christian Leaders, in order to pursue their mutual object to advance the Christian faith by providing leadership training and development for those involved in Christian ministries. In planning the charity's activities the Trustees apply the guidance on public benefit issued by the Charity Commission.

The grants made by the charity helped to provide training through the following retreats, short courses, conferences and mentoring programmes organised by the US based charity Forum of Christian Leaders and European Leadership Forum:

## _**1. European Leadership Forum’s Annual Meeting**_

This is an invitation-only, intensive week-long event that unites, equips, and resources Christian leaders, consisting of corporate worship, small group training, mentoring, and fellowship:

a) Over 700 Christian leaders from 52 countries were united, equipped, and resourced in ministry and leadership for the advancement of the Christian faith at the European Leadership Forum’s 2023 Annual Meeting.

b) Participants learned from 24 specialised Forum Networks (designed to mentor and resource leaders in specific ministry and vocational callings from across Europe). Most of these Networks also implemented virtual small groups to build community.

c) Participants received mentoring and counselling from senior leaders in over 241 Mentoring Meetings at the Forum, including both one-on-one and small-group meetings.

d) Over 360 Workshops were led by Forum speakers who are leading experts on various discipleship, evangelistic, leadership, and biblical topics.

## _**2. Cambridge Leaders Network**_

This is an invitation-only seminar intended to mentor key emerging Christian leaders, helping them face leadership challenges. Ten emerging ministry leaders were mentored during the Cambridge Leaders Network in management and leadership of Christian ministry.

## _**3. Cambridge Scholars Network**_

This is designed to encourage Christian Ph.D. students to consider their disciplines and calling from a biblical standpoint. Ten young Christian academics were mentored during the Cambridge Scholars Network toward spiritual maturity, biblical faithfulness, and academic excellence.

Training through each of these conferences and activities encompassed specific biblical teaching, leadership skills and the development of Christian character.

## **Grant-making policy**

The trustees carries out sufficient due diligence to ensure that all grants are expended in accordance with the charitable purposes of the charity (as set out in its governing document) and, where grants were made from restricted funds, in accordance with any donor imposed restrictions.

In July 2019 the Trustees adopted a grant-making policy. In constructing this policy, the trustees have considered guidance published by the Charity Commission.

## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES**

## **YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2023**

## **Financial review**

During the year the charity received donations totalling £74,785 (2022: £22,186), paid grants totalling £62,999 (2022: £36,000) and paid other expenses totalling £9,519 (2022: £893). As a result cash increased by £2,267 to £11,062, of which £6,577 is unrestricted.

## **Reserves policy**

The trustees note that most of the charity's expenditure is discretionary and have determined that the charity should aim to hold unrestricted cash of no less than £3,000 so that the charity can cover its overheads. At the year end, the charity held unrestricted cash of £6,577 and the charity is complying with its reserves policy.

## **Risk management policy**

The trustees abide by a risk management policy adopted during the financial year ending in 2018. The trustees acknowledge that the responsibility for the management and control of the charity rests with them and that an integral part of this management and control is the development of a risk management policy.

Our policy is to identify and manage the possible and probably risks that the charity may face in the short and medium term as an integral part of governance. The trustees overriding responsibility is to develop, oversee and put into place systems, procedures and controls that enable the charity to be successful in achieving the purposes for which it was established and to be honouring to God.

In constructing this policy, the trustees paid due consideration to the Charity Commission guidance “How to manage risks in your charity”.

## **Responsibilities of trustees**

Charity law requires us as Trustees to prepare financial statements for each accounting year which record the receipts and payments of the charity for the year.

We are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable us to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011.

We also have a responsibility to safeguard the assets of the charity and to take reasonable steps to prevent fraud or any other irregularities.

## **NOTES TO THE ACCOUNTS**

## **YEAR ENDED 30 SEPTEMBER 2023**

## **1 Accounting policies**

The accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis and comprise a statement that shows the charity's receipts and payments, a statement that summarises the charity's assets and liabilities and related notes. The accountancy profession have determined that only accounts prepared in accordance with applicable accounting standards present a 'true and fair' view and, as these receipts and payments accounts have not (and cannot) be prepared in accordance with accounting standards, these accounts do not present (and are not intended to present) a 'true and fair' view of the charity's financial activities and state of affairs.

Unrestricted funds are funds which are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity. Restricted funds are donations which are to be used in accordance with specific restrictions imposed by donors; they include donations received from appeals for specific activities or projects.
