ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 1 JULY 2025

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

Happy Birthday! As I reported last year, 2[nd] September 2015 was the date Mersea Community Support became a registered charity and this is my tenth Annual Report.

Mersea Community Support started with an initial group of 8 volunteers back in 2013 showing an interest in continuing the mobility loan service (originally called Medical Comforts) which had been run both locally and nationally by St John Ambulance for several decades. St John nationally decided to cease the service and the stock of equipment was handed over to the group who started organising coffee mornings every Saturday to pay the rent for the building and to fund the loan service. The division on St. John Ambulance folded and eventually the volunteers were offered the lease of the building on the understanding that we became a registered charity and the rest is history. It may be of interest to note that 5 of the original volunteers are still with us as Trustees of the charity.

As you have seen from the accounts we have had another successful year fifnancially and you will hear from the section reports coming up that we have also had a successful year supporting the community of Mersea Island with the various events few run in the Community Support hall and the main reason for our , the original activity, the Mobility Equipment Loan Service.

Now these event and activities do not just happen! Each activity has a leader and a team of dedicated volunteers who give up their time week in, week out. We cannot run the organisation with you, our volunteers and I don’t think we can ever say “Thank You” enough times, so again Thank You to each and everyone of you.

Mention has been made about the large funds we hold at present and your Trustees work hard notifying other organisations that we have funds which can be distributed for the benefit of the community. This is where we need your help in spreading the word to friends and organisations that you belong to. We gave out just over £2,000 this last year and we also agreed grants to be paid out this coming year to two of our Mersea Scouts, who will be travelling to Zanzibar in 2026 to help improve school facilities and provide teaching support. Both of the young ladies concerned have agreed to come and talk about their experiences on their return.

We are here to support the Community of Mersea Island in various aspects, whether individuals or organisations and welcome further applications for funding. Please help us to spread the word.
