The church at Sladebrook exists to:

- Promote the Christian faith within our immediate area

- Provide opportunities for people to gather to worship

- Assist understanding of the faith through teaching of the Bible

- • Support outreach and missionary work in our local area, more broadly across the UK, and also around the world

The trustees have these objectives in mind when considering and planning activities, giving consideration to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit and in particular the advancement of religion.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

The main activities of the charity towards these goals are:

- Christian services held weekly for the local community, including the main Sunday morning worship service and various prayer meetings.

- Weekly home groups for prayer, Bible study and discussion.

- Seasonal special events (e.g. Christmas and Easter)

- Weekly coffee morning

- Building awareness of Christian ministries in the UK and overseas through visiting speakers and video/DVD, and supporting these ministries by prayer and financial gifts.

## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

- policy on grantmaking;

- policy programme related investment;

- contribution made by volunteers.

Section D                      Achievements and performance

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

The impact of Covid-19 continued to be felt throughout most of the year. Up to the end of July we met online only, but from the start of August we resumed in-person meetings at the church. Despite the necessary precautions of face masks, hand sanitising and social distancing, the freedom to be with one another again and to worship together was welcomed by all. We took advantage of the reset to modify the pattern and style of gathering, with coffee available before the service and a less formal seating layout to encourage conversation before and afterwards, to ensure that everyone can receive a welcome and have opportunity to talk. After over a year of Zoom this was an important way to support people’s mental health and to facilitate the renewing of personal contacts.

The weekly coffee morning restarted in August and provides another opportunity for folk from the community to meet and talk. Visits to the local care home also restarted and are appreciated by residents and staff alike. The monthly men’s group also restarted, with a mix of Zoom and in-person meetings aimed at encouraging and supporting men in various aspects of life. Home groups and the prayer meeting have continued on Zoom because of the flexibility it provides.

Due to declining numbers the Junior Church ceased meeting during the year, although a number of families were able to join with us for Christmas and Easter celebrations.

Financially the church continued to give generously, meaning that despite an increase in expenditure, overall we again showed a surplus for the year. We were able to continue to support the work of Genesis Trust in Bath (working with the homeless and disadvantaged of our city), and Bath Youth For Christ. We also supported the work of national Christian charities such as Tearfund and the Bible Society.
