FAITH CHRISTIAN GROUP (READING) CIO TRUSTEES REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2021 Organ18atlon The work of FAITH is pnmarily to fight phys￿al poverty arrong the honth, needy deprived. by so doing to share the gospel through tove. care and practtsl service. This work is carried out Lgrgely by team5 of volunteers as well as part-time staff. mosty Christians from many drfferenl churches in and around Reading. In 2021 FAITH employed nine part-tir￿ staff. wth one temporary member of staff in addrt¥)n. The organisation was running for sorrt before recerving charity slatus in 1996 as FAITH Christian Group (Reading) Tnjsl. On 1st September 2015. the Charty Commsssioners registered FAITH Christian Group {Readingl CIO, a Charitable Incorporated organisat￿n, and on 1st November 2015, the CIO took over the operation of the setwices, assets, and liabilrties of the Trust and took on the employmenl of all the stsff employed by the Trust. This change coincided with the whole operatson moving to ts current premtses in Boulton Road. 2021 revlew FAITH works in three maln, related ways to ￿hleve Fts objects. "Readtstr0gt' and 'A Bod for the NlghY' IB4N), whic work with the hungry and homeless on the streets of Reading and 'RgadlFood" Wh￿ provides food par￿1$ to indNiduals and familtes who are housed, but struggling to make ern1$ meet. Covld-19 pandomlc 2021 saw us able to re￿rn to alny)st nonnal worknng whilst rwroining ¥￿lant Régular testsng for staff was phased ¢￿1. "Re•d18tr••t" involves the distrtbution of food to those on the streets. On weekday evenings, the support of Reading Minster Church gives us a town centre base from wh￿h we offer free sandwches (kindly donated by Pret a Manger) and hot soup to the hungry and hOMe￿5S of Reading. On Sundays. we run tt8 Tea Bar to provide free hot and cold drinks and soup and rolls. 2021 gaw the aCquisit￿n of a catering van krtted out to our specifications. A key element of this work 18 to demonstrate to everyone we on the streets that they are valued individuaL8. Some of the practices, such as queueing oUt￿de. developed for the pandern￿. have continued and make for a morn controlled atmosphere. "RoadlFood - R•adlnu'• Food Bank" is a service delivtirfng food parceL8 to families and IndivKlual$ In need throughout the town. Those in need are refer￿d by RBC thial Serv￿, Job Centre, Citszens Advice and other charilies, 8gencies and churches. The average number of food parcels delNered in 2021 was 178 per week, having been 250 al tha hevJht of the pandemi¢. Donats'ons both financial and food contynued to be good. A Bod for the Nlghl A Bed for the Night (B4NI wa$ a churth based rolling wM)ter ntght shetsr that FCG ran from 2015 to 2020. were able lo offer meals and a camp ted to up to 20 adults each night. Guests were offered winter Clothes. aclivrtbes (col￿n￿reading1pUzZIeS) and a hot nwl and snacks to take away. Initially we planned to open the venues forguests to wme Inside wilh enough space lo eat. relax and enjoy activities inside the venue whilst maintsining social ￿￿tancIng. However. the UK r¢ational bckdown and stricter restrlction8 introduced by the Gov8mment after Christmas rreant that we decided to offer take-away provksion only. Guests were referred to the B4N-HU8 from Ihe St Mungo• Rough Sleeper Outreach ServirA and ty RBC or FCG directly. The provision was $pecfficalty for those staying in hotel l B&B placements and not a general food harKlout. The majority of gLtests who used the B4N-HUB were those wrth no recourse io publbc funds (NRPF). In total, there were 21 guests in either wnter provtsion or COVID plaCeff￿nts thal caffe to the B4N-HUB. Relatlon8hlp• Buildlng relationships over lime 1$ a key factor in the success of what we do. Providing some sandwiches on the street, or a food parc4 via ReadiFc)d. can lead to befnending and fvrther opportunities to help in many ¢)ther practical ways. B4N in particular gives opportLFnrtt"es over a numbeT of days or weeks to build relationships and provide links to fvrther help. On c£casions FAITH believes rt has to act as an advo¢ate for those witt￿Ut a voti, and the Charity helped a number of indFviduals in this way during the year. We have continued to work hard to maintain gc*xI worknng ptatK>nships wrth relevant agenc￿ and organisations in the town, including the various sections of RBC such as Soual Servi¢x. Housng. HiThless and Housing Pathways. 2021 also saw us working wfth the hxal couThil, a thurch and a housing a$￿ela￿on. towards opening Reading's first 'Food Panty.. P4e4
