John's) and l Away day.
The meetings were held via Zoom and in person. There are currently 6 elected members.
including the licenced lay worker, of the PCC and I co-opted. This May there are 3 vacancies
on the PCC.
The main areas concerning the PCC this year were to do with buildings and the development
of our outreach ministry. These were discussed extensively and then approval given or
modifications made.
At every meeting areas discussed involve:

AO8 where other matters can be presented to the meeting and questions asked
The main areas conceming us this year in our meetin8s have been with the decision to
purchase 42 Reads Avenue after all other options had been explored. It is pleasing to
announce that we are finally the owners of42 Reads Avenue after a year of uncertainty and
considerable discussion and negotiations with both the prevlous owner of the property and
the diocese. The transaction completed in April 2023 and will be reflected in the report and
accounts forthe year to December 2023.
Safeguardlng
Child protection and workin8 Wlth vulnerable adults-
thi5 is an ongoing mission to make Beacon Church a Safe environment and that our Beacon
family members are cared for. There are currently 18 people with a DBS certificate of which
10 people have been DBS checked this year so they can contribute safely to our activities.
Also Basic Safeguarding and Food Safety courses have been completed. We use all the
guidance provided by the Diocese and complete an annual Safeguarding audit.
Mlsslon and Outreach
Projects including Families at 4. Stay and Play, Holiday Clubs and youth activities have
continued and thi5 year a Warm Space Café, Summer Café, and a weekly group for Mums
have been established.
Finance
Monthly financial reports are presented to the meetings and discussed. Due to changes in
circumstances our monthly givin8 has reduced considerably and we are pursuing other areas
to continue our work including how to include the community in regular giving.
The PCC are committed to taking radical steps of faith and we look to the Lord to lead us
forward.
A draft copy ofthe year end December 2022 accounts ha5 been reviewed by the PCC. The
figures show that planned giving through the banking scheme has reduced.

BEACONCHURCH
Annual report 2022
Grants of £49,000 have been received from the Henry Smlth Charity and Brant money
towards the Eden Team Leader role have been received from The Message Trust.
The Parish Share was explained and Is based on our average Sunday and Wednesday
attendance. The more people. the more money we have to pay a55umlng that more money
Is belng gifted.
Fabrlc and Bulldln8S
The Reads Avenue 51te was purchased after the balance sheet date of 31 December 2022 in
Aprll 2023.
The old bullding on Palatine Road Is still In the process of beln8 made redundant and we
have ongoln8 problems with drug taklng etc being reported to the police by local resldents.
The buildin8 will probably be sold and we may receive some money which could be used for
Misslon etc, but we are still not sure. We st611 have a responsibility to keep the site tldy and
needle sweep Is needed. We still pay a public liabllity insurance for this buildin8.
Mlsslon
The Eden Team leaders are Hannah and Matt Lockwood, who share the leadership role.
Their focus Is to reach out into the community and work with Beacon church. Eden and
Beacon church are intrinsically linked. Together, Beacon and Eden have Introduced Families
@4 where famllles explore faith together. These families brin8 along other familles , sharin8
their highs and lows and hopefully eventually comlng to faith. Families @4, Stay and Play
and MOB I mothers of Beacon) are an entrance to our church, bringin8 people into
relationship with God.
The Year Ahead
Mission-what we need to further our Mission
al how can we improve our buildin8P We need a new heaterlboiler. dlsh washer,
disabled ramp. larger kitchen. safer toilets etc
bl Staffing- money needed as the funds for our children and families worker has now
run out.
cl The PCC needs to be more representative of the area of Revoe where most of our
new families come from.
dl Finances- we are about £700 down this year. but next it Is predicted that we will be
£15,000 down on this years income. We have lost some regular givers and need to
make this up.
el Grants-our building really needs about £ioo.(xIO spent on it to brlng it to the
standard we would like . How much can we afford to contribute? What grants are
available to us? We don't need everything to be done at once.

81 Working with St John's Blackpool -explorln8 the posslblllty of closer workln8 Ilnks
with them, We are already workln8 In slmllar areas of mls51on and could share
resources includln8 personnel , adminlstratfon etc. We could make one large parlsh
with 2 churches. The Diocese are committed to Beacon Church continuln8 to have Its
own leader, but areas like Safe8uardln8 and Flnance (Treasurer) could be centrallzed.
We will retain our identity
