Recruitment is via free advertising and events throughout the year to attract new members who have an interest in radio broadcasting, administration, or engineering with the sole aim of entertaining patients in hospital. Trustees are selected from the membership of the charity. The purpose of the charity is to provide entertainment to patients and staff in the hospital. Relevant public service announcements are also broadcasted via the service, and information is also contained in a patient handbook, the ‘Sound Magazine’ which is produced without cost to the charity, and a donation is also made by the publisher. The latest issue was published in Spring 2024 The charity receives regular feedback from patients and employees as to the benefit it provides. It is also frequently recognised in the national HBA awards for its quality and performance. The Charity has been located in fully serviced premises away from the hospital on a temporary basis. The hospital has now agreed premises and it is planned that the charity will relocate back to the hospital in the near future. September saw Hospital Radio celebrate 60 years of broadcasting to patients in the town’s hospital with a Gala fundraising dinner being held at the Ivy Hotel which was attended by members both past and present as well as Chelmsford’s newly elected MP and Chelmsford’s mayor. Hospital Radio Chelmsford is a Registered Charity and a member of the HBA. Registered Charity No. 1163315 The charity has no debts, and sufficient reserves to cover the majority of situations. No funds are held as a custodian trustee.
