Status
The charitable company is limited by guarantee, having no share capital. Under the provisions of Section 60 of the Companies Act 2006, the company is entitled to omit the word "Limited" from its name. The governing document of the charitable company is its Memorandum and Articles of Association.
Objects and Activities of the Charity
The objects of the church are for the benefit of the public:
A) to advance the Christian faith in accordance with the statement in such ways and in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Church Council from time to time may think fit;
B) to relieve sickness and financial hardship and to promote and preserve good health by the provision of funds, goods or services of any kind including through the provision of counselling and support in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Church Council from time to time may think fit; and
C) to advance education in such ways and in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Church Council from time to time may think fit.
Sunday Meetings
For the first half of the year our Sunday meetings were still being held on Zoom. Attendance figures stabilized at around 45-50 people joining. The meetings lasted around 60 minutes and offered opportunity for open prayer, sharing worship songs together and bible-based talks and conversation.
By August 2021 we were able to hire the Spark Studio on Metherell Avenue, Brixham, and meet following current government guidance. Attendance was at an average of 45 attendees, a drop from pre-COVID days. Nevertheless, our income from offerings did not drop by the same measure due to many giving by direct banking rather than inprogramme. Some members chose to watch from home via social media.

Wednesday Night Zoom
A prayer meeting and bible study took place every week on Zoom throughout the year. Attendance fluctuated from 10-20 attendees but importantly provided connection to some of our more vulnerable members who were now housebound.
Preaching Team
BCC benefits from a number of gifted speakers. While the Team Leader (Minister) brought around 50% of the messages on a Sunday morning throughout 2021, members have benefited from the variety offered by different styles and personalities of around half a dozen preachers.
Social Activities
Everyone at BCC is encouraged to engage in a wide and varied social calendar that helps build friendship and a caring and supportive community. Naturally this was significantly curtailed due to COVID but by the end of the year people were able to meet for coffee, go for walks and encourage one another in the faith. A picnic was held in the summer and at Christmas a carol service was well attended despite new temporary restrictions coming in from the government at that time.
Community Engagement
Because of the faith they share, many members of the church have involved themselves in other charitable events. This has been encouraged by the leadership of the church who champion those who reach out to the local community. Some examples include the Haven, Torbay, who work with the homeless, Torbay Winder Night Shelter, YES Brixham, and the Front Room Café.
For the best part of 2021 much of this involvement was impossible. The leadership team encouraged members of the church to reach out to their neighbours as restrictions allowed by making the effort to befriend those on their street and pray for them, building a sense of community.
Working with other churches
Two trustees have regularly met with leaders from the Baptist, Methodist, Salvation Army and Anglican Churches for prayer, fellowship and idea sharing. From this connection, plans were being formed for a combined event in 2022.
Overseas Missions
home in Kenya and a church in India receive regular financial support. Other charities (e.g. Brixham food bank, World Of Worth www.wowuk.org) were supported because they too have congruent aims and
Achievements and performance
The above sections illustrate the difference BCC makes to Brixham and beyond. By encouraging social connection, people have found an answer to loneliness. New friendships have formed which have led to people meeting outside of church events that would otherwise not have happened. People have been able to not only find fellowship but an opportunity to discuss life questions and hear different opinions. Sunday meetings remain the main focus of the church activity where everyone comes together. Here both the music and the message build an atmosphere of faith and hope. From all these benefits, the ripple effects go out as those encouraged in the faith contribute in the community, helping those who do not belong to the church, whether they are a homeless person o

public benefit in deciding which
activities that Charity should undertake.
Structure, governance and management
The company was incorporated 25 June 2015 and was dormant until 1 Jan 2020 when all the assets of the Old Charity were transferred to the Charitable company.
Trustees are appointed to the board by recommendation of the Church Council and mutual agreement of the existing trustees.
Financial review
The charity has remained financially viable during 2021 through the giving of its regular supporters and the careful managing of resources. Due to the sale of a parcel of land in the previous period there only remained two promissory note holders who were still owed funds, but a larger sum was still due to come in from the buyer of the land. Additional financial planning involved working towards building up a reserve fund.

Reserves
The trustees plan to retain a modest level of reserves as a contingency fund against future demands on the

1 Accounting Policies
Basis of accounting
The principal accounting policies adopted, judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty in the preparation of the financial statements are as follows:
a) Basis of preparation of financial statements and assessment of going concern
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019) (Charities SORP (FRS 102)), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Companies Act 2006.
Brixham Community Church meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy notes.
The functional and presentational currency of these financial statements is sterling.
The trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the a going concern.
b) Income
Income is recognised when the charity has entitlement to funds, any performance conditions attached to the items of income have been met, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
Capital grants receivable are credited to the SOFA as they become receivable and are treated as restricted funds. The depreciation on the assets to which the grants relate is charged against these funds.
c) Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds are funds available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity and which have not been designated for other purposes.
Restricted funds are funds received which are to be used in accordance with specific restrictions imposed by donors or which have been raised by the charity for particular purposes.
d) Expenditure
Expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that settlement will be required and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure includes irrecoverable VAT.
e) Fixed Assets
Furniture and equipment in the church premises was transferred from the old charity to the Charitable company on 1 January 2020 at their net book value at that date. Subsequent additions are included at cost.

details.
f) Financial instruments
Financial instruments are classified and accounted for, according to the substance of the contractual arrangement, as financial assets, financial liabilities or equity instruments. An equity instrument is any contract that evidences a residual interest in the assets of the company after deducting all of its liabilities. The company holds the following financial instruments, all of which are considered to be basic:
-
Short term debtors and creditors
-
Cash and bank balances
g) Critical accounting judgements and sources of key estimation uncertainty
required to make judgements, estimates and assumptions about the carrying amounts of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other sources. The estimates and associated assumptions are based on historical experience and other factors that are considered to be relevant. Actual results may differ from these estimates.
The estimates and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounting estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised if the revision affects only that period, or in the period of the revision and future periods if the revision affects both current and future periods. The following are the critical judgements and estimates that the trustees have made in the the amounts recognised in the financial statements.
Critical judgements
- Key management personnel comprises the trustees.
Critical estimates
- No depreciation is provided on church premises, as the trustees consider that the residual value of the premises at the end of their useful life is such that depreciation would be immaterial. The charity has a policy and practice of regular maintenance and repair such that these assets are kept to their previously assessed standard of performance, and the premises are unlikely to suffer from economic or technological obsolescence. As a result the useful economic life of these premises are expected to be very long.
