## Chair report 2025 

Welcome everyone to this year’s Orwell Panthers Annual General Meeting.  Please accept my apologies now if I forget to mention anyone and if I waffle on for too long. 

We have had another fantastic year with our athletes taking part in several competitions with every athlete, who took part, some for the very first time, exceeding their expectations and all achieving personal bests.  The competitions that we attended this season were at Lee Valley, Bradford, North Staffs, Norwich and Birmingham.  We will continue to encourage our athletes to attend as many competitions as possible to help with their progression. 

Special Olympics Suffolk will be holding an athletic competition, probably at Bury St. Edmunds, next year, date yet to be arranged.  I will let you all know as soon as a date has been confirmed. 

Many of you should have heard by now that Special Olympics Great Britain will be holding a 4 – 5 day event next year, with athletics being one of the sports to be included.  We have not had a venue or date announced yet but at least we have a year to work towards for fund raising and training.  Remember this event can be a stepping stone for athletes who would like to go onto represent Great Britain. 

The club’s new equipment shed, which I think most of you have seen, we are busy filling up with new as well as our existing equipment.  Equipment we are yet to purchase includes sprint blocks and a running frame. 

All current full members should have received our new kit with the new logo – see me at the end of the meeting if you haven’t.  we hope to set up an online buying page for people to purchase kit in the future. 

We as a club continue to grow with many new members joining us this year.  As they say from small acorns great oak trees grow. 

Events to look forward to in 2026 is the club’s Christmas meal at Spoons on the 7[th] January and ten pin bowling on the 25[th] March, please make sure you put these dates in your diary.  Everyone is welcome family and friends. See myself or Colin for more details. 

We are still waiting to hear exactly how Northgate track will be run after the end of March 2026: we understand that the School will be running the booking system.  We have been informed the track will be re-laid some time in 2026, again we are waiting to hear exactly what and when the works will be carried out. 

The club will be starting a new WhatsApp group to keep people informed about any changes to training and up and coming competitions.  Please see Sam, if you are interested, for further details. 

We have a few retiring trustees this year, I would like to thank them all personally for their tireless work during their time on the committee. 

I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone how much free time the trustees  of the club give up to attend to the day to day running of the club.  Also, my thanks go to our volunteer coaches, who give up their time to train our athletes week in and week out, plus taking athletes to away competitions.  Remember without these very important people our club would not exist.  Please can I have a round of applause for all the trustees and coaches.
