Hi all thank you for your interest and ongoing support throughout the year even during such a difficult time as covid we all here at Pentrebane zone really do hope that you are all coping with some of the hardest changes we have all had to make

## **October 2019**

We held a successful Halloween party for the children & families of the community this event is always a success with the community as they get to come together in a safe environment and enjoy a party with their friends and family.

## **November 2019**

We spent the month putting plans in place, preparing, & decorating the zone for our Christmas event for the community.

## **December 2019**

the community really comes together to enjoy the festivities in a safe and welcoming environment we had Santa’s grotto and a disco for the children, Arts & crafts and a sing along to Christmas carols. Christmas hampers for the community/ families and the vulnerable members of the community which may face hard times over the christmas period.

## **January 2020**

we saw lots of new faces using the centre as new groups and classes started. We had a Dementia cafe which meant people could come along and take a trip down memory lane with some old films, music and different things to do each week. Another of the new groups was Camera club which gave people the opportunity to go out with one of our staff members and get some fabulous photo’s, We had a Knit & Natter group which was also a great success the people that attended

each made brick shapes out of wool that was then sewn together to make a huge brick wall blanket. Parent & toddler saw some new faces attending which was lovely to meet the new little ones within the community and making that family engagement with families in the area, Gardening club has always been a success among families and children in the community teaching some basic skills on growing your own produce which was a handy skill to have for people during covid times as lots of families grew their own fruit and veg to enjoy, family craft clubs were run by one of our staff members and was enjoyed by all.

## **February 2020**

Tragically the people of Taffswell, Nantgarw, and surrounding areas lost everything in their homes due to severe floods in their area’s seeing people with no furniture, appliances, or anything so to help lessen the strain on these people financially we made up emergency bags containing food and other essentials that we had donated to us from Morrison’s and Jesus cares and delivered them to Nantgarw and Taffswell community centres that had created hubs for people to go and get whatever essentials they needed. We were also one of the allocated drop off points for people to donate items for us to then to pass on to the relevant hubs that were helping them. Trustee’s and staff of the centre felt that this was a brilliant achievement for all of us at the zone.

## **March 2020**

We saw the first local lockdown Due to Covid-19 we were forced to close the centre to the public, luckily, we were able to make up emergency food bags during this time and give them to members of the community that had fallen on hard times this was done following social distancing guidelines and from the conservatory entrance only. Our local counsellors also got in touch with us to sign post a few vulnerable people that needed support and needed extra help with food, so we delivered emergency food bags to these people. Helping people with food and essentials has continued throughout the whole lockdown and we still help people at present.

## **April 2020**

We held a Social distance gardening and a clean-up of the polytunnel and surrounding areas thanks to a couple of volunteers who were really struggling with the lockdown and being isolated with no family or friends we had some lovely reviews from these people expressing how much the zone has helped them with their mental health during such hard and pressing times.

## **May 2020**

Our fantastic volunteers as mentioned above attended the outside of the centre and with use of the poly tunnel following social distance guidelines, they planted seeds and grew some fabulous flowers, herbs, fruits and vegetables (These can be seen on our Facebook page @Pentrebanezone)

## **- June 2020 July 2020**

Due to the building still being closed our volunteers made some brilliant hanging baskets alongside other plants, fruits and vegetables that were all grown in our polytunnel to sell (All proceeds went towards the costs of the centre as we

weren’t getting an income from any other source as our food provision was not able to run) Some of our volunteers and trustee’s made themselves available to give out packed lunches to the children of the community luckily we had brilliant weather to be able to do this from the zones carpark. Also, during this month, a fantastic little girl called Lilly at only 5 years old decided that she wanted to do a Sponsored walk from Pentrebane to insole court and back again and give all money that she raised to Pentrebane Zone. A Few trustees met with Lilly and her mum on completion of her walk to give Lilly a gift as a thank you from us all at Pentrebane zone everyone was overjoyed with such a thoughtful thing for such a brilliant young girl to do!

## **August 2020**

Our brilliant volunteers continued to grow and sell flowers they even grew a 11ft sunflower in our polytunnel (Pictures can be seen on our Facebook group) The sunflowers were a great hit with the community and we asked each person who took one home to keep us up to date with how well theirs was coming along.

## **September - October 2020**

We saw the return of Our youth provision from the building itself after government guidelines were changed providing all the correct safety measures were in place our staff were eager to get back after spending the previous months working from home, researching online, and keeping in contact with the youth of the community, offering support to those who needed it.

## _**Addition info :**_

During the months we were closed due to covid we still made sure that our community members were aware that we were still available to be contacted for any help they may need and for food parcels for the vulnerable families of the community that they were able to access from outside the zone. The youth workers did everything they could to reach out to the children and families via social media and other forms of contact, the provided learning packs, wellbeing packs & ran online sessions such as games and quizzes.

Before covid we ran workshops such as Gardening sessions, Metal work & Woodwork sessions for both youth and vulnerable adults of the community these workshops were run on a weekly basis.
