Section D Achievements and performance

|**Summary of the main**
**achievements of the charity**
**during the year**|**BOURNE FREE YOUTH CLUB – SASBAH - Oct 29th to Nov 1st 2024**
A four day theatre and music workshop/performance project with 17
participants from the Bourne Free Youth Club (part of SASBAH - Sussex
Association of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus). The theme of the
project, chosen through discussions with participants, was how to create
an inclusive celebration for SASBAH’s 60th anniversary. The participants
were guided in the development of a performance created through
improvisation, music, film, poetry, games and artwork, by theatre and
music practitioners and Bourne Free youth workers. The final
performance entitled_Where’s the Party At?,_was made up of short
vignettes and songs, and took place in front of a large enthusiastic
audience of friends and family.
The participants developed new acting, music and performance skills as
well as self-confidence in their own abilities.
**INSIDE/OUTSIDE DRAMA & FILM PROJECT**
This co-production explored the experiences of 16 participants who all
experience mental health challenges, to create a play through discussion,
improvisation, music and creative writing. The play was performed to
students in local secondary schools and 8 bitesize videos were created
from interviews and discussions with participants, with each video
reflecting upon a different aspect of mental health. This stage of the
project ended in June 2024.
Unfortunately, our project partners, Discovery College (part of Sussex
Partnership NHS Foundation Trust) lost their funding and closed down,
and the task of completing the PSHE packs that were to accompany the
videos was picked up by Recovery College. This led to some delay in
finalising the work. However, in February 2025, the packs received final
authorisation and were released to the PSHE Teachers’ Hubs to be
distributed with the videos to secondary schools in East Sussex and
Brighton & Hove. These packs will be a valuable aid in opening
discussions about mental health and wellbeing in the classroom, by
presenting the perspectives of young people with mental health
challenges through video interviews.
This work was funded by Arts Council England, Chalk Cliff Trust and
Discovery College.
**EASTBOURNE SOUP (EASTBOURNE COMM. PROJECT, STAGE 2)**
Raising funds for this large-scale project was difficult in the current
economic climate. The Company did not receive the necessary funding
from Arts Council England, but fortunately Backstage Trust, Chalk Cliff
trust, East Sussex Arts Partnership and Darcy Clothing all offered
substantial funds so that the work could go ahead.
From August 2025 we began script development, engaging the artists
and young creatives, and confirming local partnerships. Community
castingworkshops will takeplace in Jan 26, with the finished scriptgoing|

## **Independent examiner’s report to the Trustees of The Company (Charitable Incorporated Organisation- number 1163093)**

I report on the accounts of the company for the period ended 31 August 2025, which are set out on pages 1 to 2 of the Receipts and Payments accounts.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

- examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;

- to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and

- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of independent examiner’s report**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and the seeking of explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **Independent examiner’s statement**

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirement:

   - To keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and

   - To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act

have not been meet;

or

2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
