The tr�stees are pleased to present their ann�al report together �ith the financial statements of the charit�for the �ear ending 31 A�g�st 2022.

CHAIR�S REPORT

While the effects of the pandemic co�ld still be felt, this season sa�FCO make its s�ccessf�l London operatic deb�t �ith a prod�ction of Doni�etti�s �Rita�at the Charing Cross Theatre. Critics �arml� praised the orchestra�s �sparkl�� and �near mirac�lo�s�pla�ing �nder cond�ctor Mark A�stin. There �ere also a n�mber of chamber m�sic performances incl�ding a s�ccessf�l collaboration �ith solo do�ble bassist Tob�H�ghes at Champs Hill.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

The objecti�e of Fa�st Chamber Orchestra (the �Orchestra�) is:

to ad�ance, impro�e, de�elop and maintain p�blic ed�cation in, and appreciation of, the art of m�sic in all its aspects b�the presentation of p�blic concerts and recitals, and b�s�ch other means as the tr�stees shall determine from time to time.

The Orchestra is composed of �o�ng professional m�sicians and aims at making classical m�sic fresh, comprehensible, and inspirational in the concert hall. Under the artistic direction of cond�ctor, Mark A�stin, the Orchestra pro�ides accessible spoken introd�ctions and m�sical demonstrations as part of its concerts, �hich bring the m�sic closer to a�diences.

In order to achie�e its objecti�es, the Orchestra organises and deli�ers a range of li�e performances, in 3 main formats:

The Orchestra gi�es professional pla�ers the opport�nit�to perform �ith and pla�an acti�e and fairl�rem�nerated role �ith a top-class ensemble.

The Orchestra is in�ol�ed in the comm�nit�and relies on �ol�ntar�help. In addition to the time �ol�nteered b�tr�stees and members of the management team, se�eral �ol�nteers assist �ith bo�office administration, concert management, and catering for Orchestra pla�ers and g�est artists. Fa�st Chamber Orchestra is e�tremel�gratef�l for their ongoing s�pport.

In shaping the objecti�es for each season and planning the acti�ities, the Charit�Tr�stees ha�e had regard to the Charit�Commission�s g�idance on p�blic benefit.

FINANCIAL REVIEW AND PRICING POLICY

The res�lts for the �ear ended 31 A�g�st 2022 and the financial position as at 31 A�g�st 2022 are set o�t in the Ann�al Acco�nts prepared on the basis of receipts and pa�ments.

The financial �ear 2021-22 ended �ith an o�erall s�rpl�s of �2141, res�lting from total receipts of �28957 and total pa�ments of �26816. Cash f�nds at the �ear end amo�nted to �21961.

The tr�stees re�ie�ed and �pdated the financial control policies.

P��c���P���c�

Affordabilit�and access to the performances are important criterias and the pricing polic� reflects the strateg�of enabling all �ithin the comm�nit�, �hate�er their means, to attend a li�e m�sic performance. F�ll ticket prices to the orchestral concerts in this season �ere ho�e�er determined b�the promoter.

The tr�stees ackno�ledge the need to maintain s�fficient reser�es to pro�ide a degree of financial sec�rit�for the Orchestra's ongoing and f�t�re operations.

Contin�ing from the pre�io�s season, the board �orked on the basis of a reser�e polic��hich established that f�nds eq�i�alent to t�pical project t�rno�er, �10,000 at the time, sho�ld be held as free reser�e to ens�re financial stabilit�.

As the Orchestra de�elops and the si�e of its operations changes, the amo�nt of reser�es �ill be re�ie�ed accordingl�.

GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

G��������d�c�����

Fa�st Chamber Orchestra is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation go�erned according to its Constit�tion (�fo�ndation�model) dated 7 March 2014.

The Constit�tion �as modified on 29 J�l�2015 (Object) and f�rther modified on 30 No�ember 2015 (change in name from Fa�st Ensemble to Fa�st Chamber Orchestra).

O��a���a����

The tr�stees are responsible for the o�erall management and control of the CIO. The board of tr�stees meets on a q�arterl�basis, �ith members of the management team in attendance.

Decisions are made b�simple majorit�of �otes at a meeting of the board of tr�stees or b� resol�tion made in �riting or in electronic form and agreed b�all tr�stees.

All Tr�stees gi�e of their time freel�and no rem�neration or e�penses �ere paid in the �ear.

Da�to da�management of the Charit��s affairs is delegated to the Artistic Director.

The e�isting tr�stees ma�appoint a ne�tr�stee at an�time for a term of three �ears b�a resol�tion passed at a meeting of the board of tr�stees.

In selecting indi�id�als for appointment as charit�tr�stees, the e�isting tr�stees ha�e regard to the skills, kno�ledge and e�perience needed for the effecti�e administration of the Charit�.

There m�st be at least three and not more than t�el�e tr�stees.

Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Faust Chamber Orchestra

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Faust Chamber Orchestra (the ‘Orchestra’) for the year ended 31 August 2022.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity trustees of the Orchestra you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the Orchestra’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner’s statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Orchestra as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
