Blakedown Signal Box as a communtyassÈt on 3 lon8 lease from the Parish Council as a lotally listed
heritage a55et.
The 5Ite was maintained and supervised by ilE Hlstorical Socwy durins theyear in accordance wtth
the Occupation A8reement dated February 2019. Afterthe business inierruption caused by ihe
Covld pandemic, April 2022 to March 2023 was in eflettthefir5t full yearof operation forthe Signal
Box, wilh the pDssibiltyofdeveloping re8ulèrbookingsand pattèrns of use. Throughout the year
the Historical &)ciety wagwery effertive in opening the Box on two occasions in every month for
coffÈe mornin8s which aimed to infolm vi51tors abDut thE Story of the Signal 8ox, 5timul3te interest
itTr the history of the bcality, encoura8e local use of thefacility and regular booking5. and at the same
time provide a welcoming and supportive environment.
During rhe year interne to the Tru5ttotolled £L,8tQ against outg01n8s of £1,450, showin8that the
Signal Box is now returning an in year 20% surplu51orihe Trust. The Trust starts the new finarKial
year12023141 with no outstanding debt.

The Trust seeks to involve the public in it5 local heritaEe bytontinuingto hold and preserve the
SÈnal Box for community use. ltsother powers remain available.

In addition to further strensthenirig the reguiir income from group and individual room hire. the
Trust is looking to make impr0￿MentS to rhe Signal Box. especially around heating, which should
a150 help to reduce utility cost5. It is hoped that thi5wiII be funded from another local Trusi ser up
for seneral communlty Si>PPOrt. Outside funding will also be 50u8ht forany other 5ub5tanti31
projects. so ihat currert residual funds can be used to finance ongoing and re8tJlar maintenance
requ1￿MentS.
