The Charity provides equestrian opportunities specifically for children and adults with physical, sensory and learning disabilities in order for them to gain therapeutic benefit and have the chance to achieve. These include riding therapy and training, competitions, training on horse care and stable management, and educational activities; and specific projects aimed at providing therapy including Hippotherapy. **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** Belvoir Vale RDA treats each rider as an individual, tailoring its support to their specific requirements. The Charity provides specialist tuition by RDA qualified coaches and supported by trained volunteers with-out whom most of the people that the group works with would not be able to access the riding activities. ## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)** March **2012** **TAR** 3 The Belvoir Vale RDA group is entirely run by volunteers including the coaches, trustees, pony leaders and side walkers. For the period of this report there were 17 individuals drawn from a range of backgrounds and ages. All are bound by their desire to help and support the disabled participants. You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about: - policy on grantmaking; - policy programme related investment; - contribution made by volunteers. The number of volunteers was reduced compared to previous years by having to limit the number of individuals on the yard due to COVID-19 restrictions. Of these volunteers 7 were under 25 years of age. Unfortunately, this year due to the COVID restrictions, we were unable to host students wanting to work towards their The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. We do hope that this scheme can be reinstated next year as these younger volunteers are the future of the group. ## Section D Achievements and performance March **2012** **TAR** 4 Section D Achievements and performance **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** Our financial year runs from the beginning of August to the end of July and, like the year before, this year has been heavily influenced by the forced cessation of our sessions due to the pandemic for a total of 4 months- November then again in January to April. When we were allowed to re-open, there were strict operating restrictions around social distancing & mixed households. The total number of sessions delivered by Belvoir Vale RDA was 433, about a 50% reduction compared to the pre-pandemic year 2018-2019. This figure was however very much larger than the average for RDA groups nationally with only about 15% of the groups around the country restarted after the first lockdown in early 2020. At the beginning of August 2020 we had 11 riders able to ride within the restrictions and by the end of July 2021 this figure had risen to 20. Unfortunately, we were still unable to work with those riders requiring side-walkers. Belvoir Vale RDA is very proud that they have been able to provide riding opportunities to over 77% of their regular participants during a very difficult time and will strive to get all their riders back when the Covid restrictions allow. Our wonderful team of ponies have continued to work their magic and Fin, who was bought at the end of January 2020, has settled very well into his new role enabling several of the younger riders ride off the lead rein for the first time. Notable events that happened within the year included 14 of our participants taking part in the Regional Qualifiers in Dressage and Countryside Challenge which were held virtually for the first time. Filming was spread over 8 days to allow as many riders as possible the chance to compete. Thank you to all the volunteers who gave up yet more time to support the riders, prepare the ponies ready for the competition and to film the rounds. We subsequently found out that 5 riders are through to the National Championships in October. In early summer, Banjo, a horse jointly owned by Abi and Lesley, was assessed to be suitable to be used within RDA sessions and he is a great addition to the team being slightly bigger than Tommy so able to carry our bigger adults. In July one of our fabulous volunteers completed The Continuous 100k Trek in the Derbyshire Dales lasting over 24 hours. The weather was appaling at the start but Natalie managed to raise over £2300 for our group. This money will be put towards the installation of arena mirrors which are a valuable aid to develop rider awareness of their position. ## **Section E Financial review** March **2012** **TAR** 5 ## **Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves** The Trustees are satisfied that the Charity’s cash fund are suffiecient for the Group to continue to operate. Our policy of participants paying ‘up-front’ has allowed us to forward plan more effectively and has reduced the number of ‘wasted’ sessions due to unexplained absences by riders. The reserves we hold are needed to support ponies even when we are unable to run sessions, such as during the pandemic lockdowns and to meet unexpected costs such as veterinary bills. ## **Details of any funds materially in deficit** ## **Further financial review details (Optional information)** You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about: - the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising); - how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity; Our main source of funds consists of rider’s fees and pony sponsorship. We are very grateful that many of our riders continued to support us financially even during the lockdowns in recognition that we still need to pay livery and veterinary costs. In addition, the Co-op store in Radcliffe-on-Trent have continued to support us through their Local Community Fund. This money has been used to support our new pony Fin. - investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted. ## **Section F Other optional information** In August 2021 a planning application to build a purpose-built RDA Centre and associated welfare facilities was approved on land owned by the group’s chairman and her family.
