. TRUSTEE REPORT FOR THE YEAR TO 31 MARCH 2025

Our Mission remains unchanged in that we want to rescue dogs in Cyprus from dire situations (such as “kill shelters” or living wild) though a number are simply “dumped” with us, by re-homing them, usually after they have received necessary medical treatment – including vaccinations - & been given the necessary time to recover. Nearly all of our dogs are re-homed in the UK.

We are managed by two Trustees. Clare Phillips is a UK national who lives in Cyprus and runs our kennels and does everything else like taking them to the vets and airport as well as providing 24/7 over-sight. Louise James is the UK-based Trustee who helps provides the Admin support.

There is a small loyal group of UK supporters who assist by running the Monthly Draw, producing the annual calendar and various fund-raising activities. Any help is welcome. We have a number of people in our Monthly Draw and others who financially contribute – especially when we take on a dog in a poor state.

We do not pay any salaries and we operate from our homes so no office or governance costs. This means the money we raise is used on the care of our dogs. Claire was doing this for some time before our charity was incorporated.

We believe our contribution to society are the dogs whose lives we save. We vigourously join the struggle for the better treatment of animals in Cyprus and work with a number of other charities.

The general economic down-turn is out of the control of the charity – as are new taxes and tariffs – but these are a challenge to retain our income. They are little different to the challenges faced by the charity sector which has to step in when Governments don’t even apply their own laws – as is often the case in Cyprus.

The risk of falling donations is our prime risk followed by legislative changes and new or resurgent dog diseases. Difficult to mitigate against all three. We keep a financial reserve.

Because few of our dogs are “quick turn-around” we use our funds to subsidize each dog that we re-home. Though we do expect a donation each dog comes with expenses – not least the passport, innoculations/paperwork and flight costs. Flights themselves can be problematic – especially during the winter months – however we work with other charities to share flights – but we are limited to the airports we can fly to, so some dogs need to be couriered on arrival. We are very grateful to our volunteers who help with this.

This has been a difficult year for our charity as it is buffeted from the pressure on donor’s finances translated firstly into lower giving – and sadly the continued availability of dogs needing to be re-homed in the UK. We believe that all dogs matter and support their efforts but we also encourage people to carefully consider the responsibility and cost that comes with owning a dog before choosing a suitable breed or type of dog best-suited to them, their circumstances and their finances before then choosing where they would like to get it from.

While income has fallen we have seen our costs like vet services rise – yes, this isn’t a problem limited to the UK. We do not face the pressures of salaries or running an office so

we continue to be financially efficient and put our income into the care and re-homing of our dogs, some of which we sadly have had for some time.

Last year Clare & Simon moved outside of Pathos to a more rural area where the inevitable noise from our kennels is not so disruptive. This has meant further to travel to the vets, chemists and airport. After careful consideration we decided to purchase a van - which could carry 2 dog crates - and make the charity fairer to them. With all the unpaid hours we receive from them, this is an easy way to make their lives easier by the time it saves and transfers some of our operational costs to the charity.

Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Love Cyprus Dog Rescue (Charity Number 1162877)

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the 12 months ended 31 March 2025, which are attached.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

Basis of independent examiner’s report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission.

An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the next statement.

Independent examiner’s statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

• to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act and

• to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met or (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached
