Annual Report for 2021

In accordance with our Constitution and our obligations as a CIO,

Heroica Theatre Company’s Trustees met at four Board meetings and an AGM across 2020, and accurate Minutes were kept. Accounts and reports were submitted to The Charity Commission in October 2021.

Another interesting and thought-provoking year for us, despite the set-backs related to the continuing Coronavirus pandemic.

1. MM project news and Margaret Morris: Inspirations

It was hard to determine when we would be likely to get an application in for funding to the Arts Council regarding a tour in 2023. We were not in a position to hold further workshops but were encouraged by a zoom reading with actors of Anna Carlisle’s current draft of the script. Constructive in many ways we realized that the practical movement elements must be tried as an element immersed in the text. Our writer, AC, has made great strides towards achieving this. Connections were maintained with MMMI and membership retained for a further year.

Funding applications to ACE and CS were to be the Main event this year but in fact there was nothing submitted in 2021 due to restrictions concerning necessary travel to prospective touring venues. We hope to make these vital location contacts as soon as travel is made more possible next year.

2. Maverick Monologues

We were able to continue to hold ‘Maverick Monologues’ on Zoom and a Zoom account was opened to facilitate these events on a regular basis and also our business and board meetings. Maverick Monologues (7-12) were very successful and we had attenders, from England, Scotland, Wales, France, The Falklands, New York, Sydney and Hobart. Feedback and comments were once again overwhelmingly positive, and attenders were very generous with their donations to Heroica Theatre Company projects:c£1500 this year.

The Maverick Monologues page on our website now features more verbatim monologues so far presented, plus images of the heroines in the Gallery. This resource is growing into something to be proud of and begs for development.
