Our Skate School project has been the big success story of 2021/22. Through the lockdowns The YOU Foundation turned to detached and street based work where we met so many new young skaters. SkateboardGB estimated 70’000 newcomers to the sport in 2020, and I think most of them lived in Staple Hill! We knew these young rippers would need somewhere safe and dry to hone their skills and the YouF Centre could be the perfect place to give a home to this new community of young people.

Through 2021/22 our youth club sessions have run alongside The Boarding School, providing young people a space to meet up, grab a snack or tasty treat and get involved in different activities. Over the last year we’ve been engaging with young people to learn what they want from this space and have encouraged young people to take the lead with it. From volunteers running the tuc shop to redesigning the TV area young people have made their mark

Our music workshops have been running twice a week and providing support to young people with big musical ambitions.
The major highlight of the year was our Thursday night band getting to perform at the South Glos Youth Awards. <— pictured left.
We were very fortunate to be able to offer young people a trip to the wave in August 2021 as part of the South Glos Youth partnership. A great day trying something new!
In February half term we helped run a trip to the newly opened Planet Ice Bristol. Young people took part in a quiz to win a place of the trip. Turns out skateboarding skills and balance transfer quite well to the ice!
For two years the South Glos awards had to be put on hold so we pulled out all the stops for the event this year
Young people were involved in every stage and everything was perfect on the night. The awards couldn’t have happened without all the work put in in spite of all the lockdowns and closed youth centres!
