# **Sheffield Street Pastor Coordinator Annual Report 2020 Sheffield Street Pastors: c/o Rock Christian Centre,**

# **- 177 195 Spital Hill S4 7LF - Charity number 1162786**

2020 has certainly been a very different year from what we expected.

We started with an amazing 10-year Celebration looking back to when we started the first team in Burngreave. It was good to meet up and share stories from over the years.

The end of February saw 5 of us attending the Best Bar None dinner. We knew we were the charity for that year; however, we didn’t expect a special presentation for 10 years of work. Tracey Ford also did an amazing talk where she mentioned God far more than we did! It was a real privilege to be there. Best Bar None announced that we were going to be their ongoing charity.

March brought with it the first Lockdown and all patrols ceased.

In July we had a small team that went out on prayer walks to see the feasibility of going out back on the streets. It was lovely to be welcomed back by the Doormen that were still there.

As a result, and after doing a number of Risk Assessments and purchase of extra PPE and sanitizer, we had 1 team out each Saturday throughout August, September

and into October. Patrol times for these teams changed as different lockdown rules came into operation.

We also had a team that went out into Burngreave a couple of times.

Each Street Pastor was given the option of participating or becoming a prayer pastor. No pressure was put on anyone. Some were over 70, shielding or vulnerable so the teams were smaller. The prayer for the teams certainly increased and this was added to by a WhatsApp being created for prayer items.

Training has obviously taken a hit this year. We did the R&R training just before lockdown 1 and had 3 people on that. We have also had a Police training that Graham Lecky did via zoom which a number of people attended.

Ascension Trust has put their training online with a few teething problems at the beginning.

Coordinator – The coordinator has been fully furloughed during the first lockdown then partly furloughed until the present. They still work a couple of hours a week to catch up on meetings, e mails etc.

Response Pastors were put on standby in January in case of flooding. They were stood down when the flooding didn’t materialise.

We had a total of 37 volunteers throughout 2020 and 11 School Pastors from over 20 churches from different denominations.

## School Pastors Update

Emma Cobbold 25/1/21

2020 was a challenging but rewarding year for the school pastor team. Having launched in Sept 2019 we started 2020 with a full team of 11 pastors going in to Meadowhead School Mondays and Thursdays. We continued to support the young people and staff by patrolling at lunchtimes and building relationships as well as taking referrals from the pastoral team for 1:1 and group sessions with specific young people. Whether we were patrolling the corridors finding young people in need of a listening ear or giving time to a staff member who was having a bad day, there was always something to get involved in.

Then Covid struck and we had to withdraw Mid-March. This didn’t deter us and we met outside school on several occasions to pray and walk around the local area.

We started back in Sept with the challenge of finding new ways of working. We had a smaller team as several pastors made the difficult decision to have a temporary

break and one pastor decided to leave the team permanently. Adapting to year group ‘bubbles’, social distancing and PPE was a huge challenge and made us aware how much we rely on facial expression and other non-verbal skills to engage with people. But we adapted and assigned ourselves to year groups building strong relationships with pastoral leads and continuing to support individual children.

The challenges for the school have been huge and it has been a privilege to come alongside staff and young people through this year. From praying with a sick staff member to linking the school to The Besom we have seen God breaking through in ways we may not have seen if Covid had not struck. We have seen a greater openness to faith and we hope this will lead to new opportunities when school resumes later this year.

We have started to send a small number of pastors back in to school this week to support specific children that the school have asked our help with. Most children are learning from home but we will continue to adapt and support wherever we can and to pray for the staff and young people through this year.

## **Stocks and work in**

## **progress**

## **Debtors**

## **Current asset investments**

Investments held for resale or pending their sale and cash and cash equivalents with a maturity date of less than 1 year are treated as current asset investments

Stocks held for sale as part of non-charitable trade are measured at the lower or cost or net realisable value.

Goods or services provided as part of a charitable activity are measured at net realisable value based on the service potential provided by items of stock.

Work in progress is valued at cost less any foreseeable loss that is likely to occur on the contract.

Debtors (including trade debtors and loans receivable) are measured on initial recognition at settlement amount after any trade discounts or amount advanced by the charity. Subsequently, they are measured at the cash or other consideration expected to be received.

The charity has investments which it holds for resale or pending their sale and cash and cash equivalents with a maturity date less than one year. These include cash on deposit and cash equivalents with a maturity of loss than one year held for investment purposes rather than to meet short-term cash commitments as they fall due.

They are valued at fair value except where they qualify as basic financial instruments.
