The year 2020 was probably the most challenging year that we as a charity have faced so far. Along with the rest of the world, we found ourselves at the mercy of the COVID 19 global pandemic and like every other organisation, had to adapt to what became our new normal. 

Apart from the challengers created by the pandemic and lockdown, we had the added loss in the unexpected death of the leader our biggest partner in Zimbabwe, Ian Mathole of AALTZ. He is survived by his wife, Tsisti who is continuing the work. 

Due to the travel restrictions, we were unable to conduct our usual training workshops and so were limited to mainly providing financial support through our partners in Africa. 

In this past year, through our partnership with AALTZ in Zimbabwe and Reverend Vernon Vera in East London, South Africa, we were able to donate funds for school fees, school uniforms and food packs for more than 30 children living in poverty, several of whom are orphans living with HIV. We also contributed to the funeral costs of Ian Mathole. 

Along with 2 other charities, we were also able to send a 40ft shipping container to Zimbabwe containing school stationery, sports kit and equipment, mobility equipment, crutches and walking frames, 2 sewing machines and 2 knitting machines, material and wool for school uniforms and several boxes of sanitary pads for distribution to girls in rural high schools. 

The year 2020 was a year filled with many challenges and many lives were lost due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Whilst we do not know what the future has in store for us, we at NEEDS Africa are nonetheless determined to continue to do all that we can to help the impoverished and marginalised people of Africa. 

In closing I would like to express my deep gratitude and thanks to all those who continue to support us as without your help, we would not be able to do what we do. May the Lord bless you all abundantly.
