## **THE LAMPS COLLECTIVE** ## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2025** The trustees present their annual report and financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31st March 2024 The financial statements have been prepared on a Receipts and Payments basis and comply with the charity’s trust deed, the Charities Act 2011 and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities published on 16 July 2014. ## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT** The LAMPS Collective is a Charitable Incorporated Organization (CIO) which was established under a constitution which set out the objectives and powers of the CIO. The LAMPS Collective is currently staffed by volunteer staff members: a Creative Director, who advises the trustees on the productions which should be mounted, a Treasurer, a Tours and Bookings Coordinator and a Website Manager. ## **RECRUITMENT AND APPOINTMENT OF TRUSTEES** The trustees of the charity have the responsibility for managing the affairs of LAMPS Collective. The Constitution of the Charity requires that there should be a minimum of three and a maximum of twelve trustees and that every trustee has to be appointed by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. Trustees bring a variety of skills to the board, including organizational, charity and financial management and a passion for the arts. The board of trustees continues to explore the recruitment of additional trustees and will seek to make sure that the composition of the board is adequate to ensure the strategic development of the charity’s work and the proper oversight of its operations. Any new trustees are likely to be sought from people known to the trustees or the Executive Team of the charity and will be those who can provide the necessary specialist skills and experience to ensure the proper working of the trustees and the development of The LAMPS Collective’s ministry. We are pleased to have been able to recruit a new trustee, Sarah McKearney, who joined the board at the trustee meeting of 19 June 2024. ## **TRUSTEE INDUCTION AND TRAINING** New Trustees are given a copy of the Constitution and a copy of the Charity Commission's booklet "The Role and Responsibility of Charity Trustees" and the role and responsibilities of trustees are explained to them. New Trustees are expected to spend some time with the Executive Team to gain a proper understanding of the work of The LAMPS Collective. The need for Trustee training is kept under review and appropriate training will be undertaken as needs are identified. Trustees are reminded of their responsibilities at each meeting of the board. Currently the trustees are drawn from a variety of professional and charity backgrounds relevant to the work of the charity. ## **TRUSTEES** Trustees who served during the period were: Roland Fuggle Marion Haynes Charles Milward Tony Rogerson Rev Mandy Marriott Sarah McKearney Bob Sands ## **RISK MANAGEMENT** A Risk Management review is carried out each year and records the risks identified, the steps in place to mitigate those risks and any actions required to further improve risk. management. Procedures are also in place to safeguard the health and safety of the production and creative teams in performance, and a prior risk assessment review is required at performance venues. Internal financial control risks are minimized by the implementation of appropriate systems and procedures, including the dual authorization of expenditure and payments. We conducted a review of all our policies, concluded at the board meeting of 19 June 2024. ## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES** The LAMPS Collective is a Charitable Incorporated Organization which was registered by the Charity Commission on 16th July 2015. The purpose of The LAMPS Collective is to advance the Christian faith for the benefit of the public by: a. The re-telling of stories for the public benefit, through high quality performances involving theatre, music, puppets, poetry and other art forms, b. The production of media resources which are of educational, cultural and spiritual value to the community and based on Christian principles, c. Teaching, training and encouraging churches and the wider public in the arts of public speaking, drama and storytelling through workshops and other media. ## **PUBLIC BENEFIT STATEMENT** The Trustees are mindful of their responsibilities regarding public benefit and seek to meet these criteria in a number of different ways. Through its performances, the charity entertains, challenges and encourages people of all ages to live a life full of meaning and purpose, seeking to motivate and change society for the better. ## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCES 2023-2024** ## **Salt and Light tour 2024** This was another very well received tour, though not as long as we would perhaps have liked. There were a total of 7 bookings 4 of which were at brand new churches. Salt and light remains a hrad show to sell, possibly because its bigger cast makes it more expensive or because it is not attached to a particular season n the church year. A new actor (and relatively new Christian) Shahrukh Saeed, joined the cast to do his first professional job. Though his inexperience showed in rehearsals, he did very well on the tour and definitely benefitted enormously on a personal level from his involvement. ## **Bread and Starlight 2024** Wynne Potts reprised the role of Elizabeth in _Bread and Starlight_ and put in some excellent performances (including a memorable one at Bath Abbey performed under a paper starlight installation created for the Christmas period) before her mother fell ill, necessitating an immediate return home. Emma Jane Peyton stepped in at extremely short notice, travelling to Scotland to perform in Wynne’s place. Emma is very familiar with the role, but given that she had virtually no time to re-rehearse, did a truly remarkable job. Audiences for this tour were small but appreciative and generating bookings was a challenge once again. It was not possible to have the new family show (angel themed) finished in time for Christmas 2024. Sam’s role as Creative director (combining the roles of Artistic and Executive directors) combined with the day-to-day running of LAMPS and the necessity of taking other paid freelance work leaves little time for creating new material. ## **Additional Christmas projects 2024** Sam, Emma, Fergus and technician Sam Oates spent three days together in the run-up to Christmas developing ideas for _Christmas by LAMPSlight_ , a concert style piece inspired by the Festival of Nine Lessons. Some of the writing and music was showcased very successfully at a Christmas party held to thank regular supporters. This piece will be further developed as time allows. During this period the same team also created filmed resources for use in publicity and on the website. It has long been felt that these would be a very valuable resource and marketing tool. Two short films were made of extracts from _The Passion_ and _Salt and Light_ plus a third featuring _Shepherd Boys,_ a piece of spoken word for Christmas, shot at Radley College Countryside Centre. ## **The Passion 2025** Our 2025 Easter Tour of _The Passion_ was a great success; for the second year running booking numbers necessitated two teams going out simultaneously (one in the north of England and Scotland, the other in southern England). The show was performed 19 times and reached approximately 2000 people. David Tarpey, Megan Blowey and Fergus Munro returned to play their roles for a second year and Stephen Bathurst returned from Finland to reprise the role of Marcus for the Northern team. Emma Jane Peyton and Dan Sears played the roles of Mary and Simon Peter once more, acting as Company Managers on their respective tours and demonstrating excellent leadership qualities. Stephen Bathurst is continuing to develop a dual language production of _The Passion_ in Finland due now to tour in the run-up to Easter 2026.
