Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

From Period start date To 02/07/2020 Period end date 01/07/2021

Charity name: ROLDA UK

Charity registration number: 1162690

Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 To promote humane behaviour towards
animals by helping our sister charity,
ROLDA, to provide appropriate care,
protection, treatment and security for
animals which are in need of care and
attention by reason of sickness,
maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill
usage and to help educate the public in
matters pertaining to animal welfare in
general and the prevention of cruelty and
suffering among animals. Romania has a
huge stray dog problem, with an estimated
2.5 millions dogs, roaming homeless at any
one time.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
ROLDA UK supports the rescue efforts in
Romania, including the management of two
rescue shelters in and around the town of
Galati. ROLDA UK aids the activities of
ROLDA Romania by providing the UK public
with the opportunity to support Romanian
stray dogs via adoption, sponsorship or
donation.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
Para 1.18 Yes we understand that the charity must run
for the benefit of the public and we at all
times will carry out the charity’s purpose for
the public benefit. Our reporting methods
reflect this.

Achievements and Performance
SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Our adoption team continues to improve
and thrive. We have a full time volunteer
who manages the process end to end,
ensuring that all dogs brought into the UK
are found safe and loving homes. The
adoptions process is tiered to ensure each
potential adopter is fully vetted. We have
also made excellent financial contributions
to the shelter in Romania (£5,966), which
may not seem much compared to larger
charities but for ROLDA UK this is a big
achievement when we spend so little on
admin and marketing.
Our two shelters care for approx 600 dogs
at any one time so care costs are high.

The charity’s principal
sources of funds (including
any fundraising)
Para 1.47 Grants and donations. Fundraising takes
place by FB and UK donations are
sometimes directed to ROLDA UK, but the
marketing costs are borne by ROLDA
Romania.
Investment policy and
objectives including any
social investment policy
adopted
Para 1.46 n/a
A description of the principal
risks facing the charity
Para 1.46 The biggest risk is around adoption, where
a dog adoption can fail, sometimes
immediately, because the adopter has not
met the dog prior to them arriving. We have
a robust adoption process in place which
limits these cases, but it is and always will
be a risk. We are able to remove the dog
immediately, transport to kennels, assess
the dog using a behaviourist and find the
dog another home. Due to the nature of dog
adoption, the risk of failure is high, but the
overall risk to the charity is low, due to the
stringent processes we have put in place.
