Chairman of the Trustees Report January 2024
The end of the ninth year of our charitable status and we are also nearing the end of our first year in our new premises in West Bank, Chorley.
The new premises are welcoming and friendly and provide a safe and fit for purpose environment for both our service users and staff. I am proud of all that they have achieved in the eighteen months since we first found our new home.
Since we moved in there has been a continuous improvement to our facilities, notably one of which was obtaining a grant for a garden area to benefit our Service Users.
This year, however, we have lost two members of Genesis staff.
Pat Albrow was one of the founders of Genesis along with Lorna. When we received charitable status she became a trustee and also the Company Secretary. She was involved in many Fundraising activities with Lorna, and until she became ill several years ago with a bad hip, a heart condition and finally cancer, she concentrated on the administration of Genesis.
Colin Taylor joined us 5 years ago and remained with us until his death this year. He, and his contribution to our lives here at Genesis is missed by us all.
Their contributions helped make Genesis what it is today.
The work here at Genesis continues at the highest levels of commitment and professionalism and their efforts, coupled with this building, is a valuable asset to the people of Chorley and the surrounding area.
David Holmes.

Independent Examiner’s Certificate For the PCC Accounts
Report to the trustees of: Genesis Care (North West) Ltd
On accounts for the year ended: 31/01/2024
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
As members of the PCC you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. You consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner’s statement
My examination was carried out in accordance with general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a‘true and fair’ view and therefore is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent Examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect,
- accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act
or
the accounts do not accord with the accounting records I have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
