Huntingfield Millennium Green Chair’s Report 2023-24
The Huntingfield Millennium Green Trustees and committee continue to manage the green to keep it in good condition for the enjoyment of parishioners and visitors. We are pleased that we have several new members of our committee and I thank them and our long serving trustees wholeheartedly for their valued help in our efforts to keep this valued village asset available to all. Other volunteers are always very welcome to join our team.
The newly planted fruit trees in our orchard are doing well and the flowers in our wildflower meadow give a colourful display in the summer. The various flower species themselves attracted in turn a wide variety of beneficial insects, butterflies and bees plus a multitude of moths which are surveyed monthly for us by a county moth expert. These included the large and attractive Convolvulus Hawkmoth and Clifden Nonpareil.
We have planned some exciting fundraising events for 2024 starting with our Plant Sale that will take place on 19[th] May. Race Night will also be held in the autumn and our brilliant 100 club will continue to raise much needed funds throughout the year. In addition we are celebrating our 25th Anniversary in 2025 so will be holding a celebration picnic/barbecue party on the green.
We have had our play equipment repaired with the help of funding from the Heveningham Hall Country Fair Trust for which we are very grateful. Plans are proceeding for the underground installation of power cables to replace the present intrusive overhead ones. We have also installed a shelter to provide protection from inclement weather and shade for Pétanque players and other visitors; the trustees are very grateful for a generous donation from the National Lottery Community Fund.
