## **Achievements and Performance**

|Summary of the main<br>achievements of the charity,<br>identifying the difference the<br>charity’s work has made to<br>the circumstances of its<br>beneficiaries and any wider<br>benefits to society as a<br>whole.|Para 1.20|•<br>Continuation of our second stove-<br>building project for 2,100<br>households funded by FCDO<br>(formerly DFID) Small Charities<br>Challenge Fund (SCCF). We have<br>amply demonstrated that provision<br>of the stoves brings economic,<br>health, social and educational<br>benefits for these households in 18<br>villages around Zomba.<br>•<br>Development of the new Songani<br>Centre for the HIV project, with<br>increased testing at the centre and<br>in the community, and with<br>additional recreational equipment at<br>the centre such as table tennis and<br>pool table. The Centre provides<br>health, social and educational<br>benefits particularly for the school-<br>age population in the area.<br>•<br>The second year of a community<br>tree-planting project which included<br>training, the establishing of tree<br>nurseries and woodlots, and the<br>distribution of trees to households.<br>In time the project will provide the<br>economic benefit of a sustainable<br>supply of firewood and the<br>environmental benefit of reversed<br>deforestation locally.<br>•<br>Starting a school-based tree<br>planting project based in Songani<br>Primary School to provide learning<br>and hands-on experience about<br>raising saplings and caring for<br>trees.<br>•<br>Planning and consultation for new<br>nursery provision at Chiyambi,<br>Monkey Bay, which build on links<br>with the area over many years.<br>Education is a key route out of<br>poverty and intervening in early<br>years education is known to have<br>benefits in later years (currently<br>less than 10% of children complete<br>Secondary Education).<br>•<br>The planned two-way visits were<br>cancelled because of Covid.|
