Continuation of our second stove-
building project for 2,100
households funded by FCDO
(formerly DFID) Small Charities
Challenge Fund (SCCF). We have
amply demonstrated that provision
of the stoves brings economic,
health, social and educational
benefits for these households in 18
villages around Zomba.

Development of the new Songani
Centre for the HIV project, with
increased testing at the centre and
in the community, and with
additional recreational equipment at
the centre such as table tennis and
pool table. The Centre provides
health, social and educational
benefits particularly for the school-
age population in the area.
•
The second year of a community
tree-planting project which included
training, the establishing of tree
nurseries and woodlots, and the
distribution of trees to households.
In time the project will provide the
economic benefit of a sustainable
supply of firewood and the
environmental benefit of reversed
deforestation locally.

Starting a school-based tree
planting project based in Songani
Primary School to provide learning
and hands-on experience about
raising saplings and caring for
trees.
•
Planning and consultation for new
nursery provision at Chiyambi,
Monkey Bay, which build on links
with the area over many years.
Education is a key route out of
poverty and intervening in early
years education is known to have
benefits in later years (currently
less than 10% of children complete
Secondary Education).

The planned two-way visits were
