Families & Friends AGM, 29th November 2021
It has been almost two years since the last meeting of FFOMC, and whilst for a long period of time the charity was in hibernation, there has been some activity upon which to report.
I did start the process of registering the charity with the Inland Revenue, however lockdown and inability to access the post at the Lyceum meant the application timed out. It’s on the list of things to do, in order to be able to claim Gift Aid on future contributions.
We did set up a Just Giving account, and that is still in place. Initially used to allow parents to voluntarily pay for online music tuition whilst face to face wasn’t possible, we need to publicise it more as a convenient method of contributing. Abby Brown, a pupil, did a sponsored run in Summer 2020, raising £321 towards the Belgium trip and that money is ringfenced for the trip.
We inherited a sizeable amount of money a little while ago, £55, 857.51, and this was moved to a restricted access deposit account in June 2020. This produced interest to the value of £778.88, and this money will go towards bursaries to encourage an increase in singers and string players. The capital sum was kept in the deposit account for another year.
Families & Friends financed two virtual workshops for Musical Theatre during lockdown, and the response was positive for both of them.
We paid the production costs for 2020’s Virtual Christmas Concert in lieu of the traditional events at this time of year, and we’re continuing to fund Musical Beginnings Extra providing a free to use hour a week for under 5’s who are adopted/looked after or have additional needs. This is, annually, the easiest invoice to pay.
Moving forward, it’s almost like starting afresh as parents who had helped us prepandemic have moved on as their young people have left school, and as a consequence, the Music Service. The primary aim for the next few months is Belgium, where we aim to lessen the cost to parents/guardians of the trip. In a similar vein of optimism, we have the marquees booked for the Summer Festival in 2022.
As ever, we are open to requests to assist in any way we can with the provision of music tuition, and the life experiences that brings, to the young people of Oldham.
