UK Film Education Trust
Charitable incorporated organisation, Charity number 1162509 Trustees Annual Report for the year ended 30 June 2025
The main charitable objective of the UK Film Education Trust is to raise and distribute funding to support professional training for the film and screen industries. Several initiatives were advanced during 2024 and 2025 to support this effort. This saw the development of strategic partnerships with industry and related organisations. Developing tax efficient giving from individual and company donors and fundraising event planning activities.
A strategic partnership was formed between the UK Film Education Trust and Screen Skills, the industry-endorsed professional training body for the UK screen sector. In December 2024 a Memorandum of Understanding was created by the Trust in collaboration with Screen Skills. A total of 50% of net proceeds raised by the Trust would be donated to Screen Skills for training in priority areas and for supporting under- represented groups.
In addition to the pledge of financial support for Screen Skills, the Trust continues to specific training providers to the industry. These include Film Design International, Animated Women UK, and Iver Makeup Academy based at Pinewood Studios.
A new fundraising initiative was launched ‘It Just Takes One’. This tax efficient scheme for individuals and companies to donate 1% of their salary or company pre-tax profits to the Trust. The donations to the Trust will enable donors to offset their tax liability. These donations will help to provide training opportunities and mentoring for new entrants into the industry. This appeal is targeting well established professionals and companies in the industry to give back and help support the next generation.
In addition to the pledge of financial support for Screen Skills, the Trust continues to specific training providers to the industry. These include Film Design International, Animated Women UK, and Iver Makeup Academy based at Pinewood Studios.
The industry has faced ongoing challenges this year due to economic uncertainty. This has affected investment in film production both in the USA and UK. This has also had an impact on fundraising events planning for the Trust.
Going forward the Trust is continuing to develop campaign materials and assets to strengthen our various fundraising initiatives. To build on our existing partnerships with industry and related organisations with shared goals. The basic assumption remains that growth in the industry will depend on a combination of investment and a skilled workforce to deliver on the opportunities ahead in the UK. The UK Film Education Trust still has an important role to play in that future growth.
