Financial Review
Review of thè charlty's
financial position at thè end
of the period
Para 1.21
The balance in hand at the end of the
period was In the region of £43,000.
against a ￿serveS policy of £15,000.
However this does include £17000 whlch
is restricted grant mongy from the
National Lottory for employee costs.
As oxpected, the Increase in all areas of
costs has played a part in our
expenditure over the year. Notably the
waste disposal dlrectivo from the Welsh
government increased our disposal
costs by at least £500 though
throughout 2024, small increa8es wore
applied due to the now UK govgrnment
budget Changes taking effect.
In 2024, we were donated 35,522Kg of
items and bought 21,081 Kg. The ratio of
bought v donated was in Ilne with 2022's
percentsge of 37°/0 bought v 63°
donated.
Tho public donat8 about through Ihelr
own fund ralslng activities, colle¢tion
points in retall shops or through food
drives at one of tha major supermarkets.
In 2023's report, It was expected that tho
public donations would decrease wlth
inflation and other factors throughout
2024. Thls has not been the casè thls
last year whlch is unexpected.
In food parcèl costs. we have bought
£25,852 worth of parcel items which
works out to be £1.22 per kg. When
convertlng this into the cost of buylng
items, thls would have been in the
region of an extra £43,560 for 2024 If we
were to buy in items for parcels
ourselves wlthout public donations.
Please note this is an approxlmallon
alculation for demonstratlon purposos.
There has been work through a
volunteers led initiative in buying items
that wlll not go to waste. Hence the cost
of buylng Items has changgd
downwards between 2023 & 2024. Thoro
has been no drop in the quality of the
items in each parcel elther and special
ention must go to our volunteers who
have contributed to this cost-saving.
In torms of roferrals, wa rocelved 2180
referrals {assistlng 4432 people overall)
whlch is down from the 2850 re
uest5 in

2023. There were 980 uniquè cllents
helped In 2024 though this number
relates to the porson making a requost
rathef than the numbor in the
household. Tho decreaso in numbers
may be the result of other work with
agencies and forms part of a large
project in 2025 to Investigate causes.
Comparing monetary donations from
the general public to 2023. this year saw
a docrgase along wilh onllne donations
though OrganisationslBusiness
donations increased. However, this is
done without promotlon and "word.of.
mouth" is primarily how wo receive
funds.
We continue to employ a warehousè
operatlons manager (full timel and
driver (part tlme). Without either and our
core volunteers, AFB would be nowher8
near providing the currentlovel of
sorvice across the Island. A fact noted
by sovéral organisations who would bo
stuck without the Foodbank in assisling
people in need.
The fundlng for these employeo costs
was mèt by a Nalional Lottery grant
which runs through to the end of March
2025. We have also employed another
driver for cover durlng 2024 which was
not grant funded.
AFB will be focussing on further grant
applicatlons to sustain the operation
over the nèxt year. The grant has
relieved pressur8 on funds throughout
2024 and Into Iho first quarter of 2025.
AFB continue to improve our warohouse
operatlons and have to thank the
volunteers who have come in and have
worked hard to increase efficlancy and
have beèn encouraged to implement
measures wlth our full support.
AFB had no concerns over the short
term finances Ihrou
hout 2024.
A reserves policy has been agrèed by
the Trustees and it was felt that we
should endeavour to malntain a balance
of at least £15000 in thè bank account to
cover omployment costs for at least 34
months
lus other ex
