**From 01 January 2023 To 31 December 2023**

## **Charity name: Anglesey Foodbank**

## **Charity registration number: 1162467**

## **Objectives and Activities**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document|Para 1.17|**The prevention or relief of poverty on**
**Anglesey in particular, but not**
**exclusively, by providing emergency**
**food supplies to individuals and families**
**in need and/or charities or other**
**organisations working to prevent or**
**relieve poverty. **|
|Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.|Para 1.17 and
1.19|**When local individuals or families find**
**themselves in crisis, Anglesey**
**Foodbank provides them with an initial 6**
**day emergency supply of food and**
**essential items. This is then repeated**
**several times.**
**Front line care professionals and**
**agencies such as doctors and social**
**workers identify those in need and**
**provide them with vouchers in exchange**
**for food. Further signposting to**
**additional help is done by these**
**agencies who are able to assist in**
**resolving the underlying cause of their**
**current crisis.**
**Since the start of the pandemic,**
**Anglesey Foodbank has moved to a**
**delivery model where food parcels are**
**delivered to the client’s home address**
**using an electronic system.**|
|Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit|Para 1.18|**By operating in this way the Trustees**
**have complied with their duty to have**
**due regard to the commissions public**
**benefit guidance.**|

## **Financial Review**

|Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period|Para 1.21|**The balance in hand at the end of the**
**period was in the region of £47,300,**
**against a reserves policy of £15,000.**
**However this does include £12000 which**
**is restricted grant money from the**
**National Lottery for employee wage**
**costs that is for the following quarter**
**employee costs.**
**As expected, the increase in all areas of**
**costs has played a part in our**
**expenditure over the year.**
**In 2023, we were donated 38,796Kg of**
**items and bought 27,903Kg.**
**Whilst we saw an increase in donations,**
**the ratio was down 5% over 2023 for**
**donations by the public (2022: 35,951Kg**
**donated, 20,823Kg bought) though there**
**was an increase in the overall total**
**weight in 2023 by nearly 1000kgs (17.5%**
**increase). The public donate about 60%**
**on average for items whether through**
**their own fund raising activities,**
**collection points in retail shops or**
**through food drives at one of the major**
**supermarkets. It was expected that the**
**public donations would decrease with**
**inflation and other factors which was**
**first noticeable in amount donated via**
**the collection points.**
**In food parcel costs, we have bought**
**£47,833 worth of items which works out**
**to be £1.71 per kg. When converting this**
**into the overall cost of buying items,**
**this would have been in the region of**
**£114,340 for 2023 if we were to buy in**
**items for parcels ourselves without**
**public donations.**
**Compared to 2022's cost per kg of £1.45,**
**this marked an 18% increase in 2023 for**
**the price per Kg (2022 was £1.45 per kg).**
**However, that is the overall average**
**increase over a year and does not take**
**into consideration the fluctuation of**
**prices throughout the period.**
**In terms of referrals, we received 2850**
**requests in 2023(2192 in 2022). As some**
**of these were passed to another**
**foodbank or refused, Anglesey**
**Foodbank made 2760 deliveries over the**
**course of the year. Our fuel costs**
**surprisingly were almost identical to**
**2022 (£3687 v £3850 for 2023) with only**
**an increase of an extra 1500 miles. **|
|---|---|---|

|||**Monetary donations from the general**
**public saw an increase though there**
**was a drop in online donations.**
**Correspondingly, we saw more people**
**donate using cash or directly. However,**
**this is done without promotion and**
**“word-of-mouth” is primarily how we**
**receive funds.**
**We continue to employ a warehouse**
**operations manager (full time) and**
**driver (part time) The funding for these**
**employee costs was met by a National**
**Lottery grant which runs through to the**
**end of March 2025.**
**AFB will be focussing on further grant**
**applications to sustain the operation**
**over the next year. As the grant has**
**relieved pressure on funds throughout**
**2023, it has allowed us to focus on**
**buying food items as well as**
**maintaining operations with cost**
**increases.**
**We have continued a path to improve**
**and upgrade the Information**
**Technology operation of the Foodbank**
**which has been beneficial in recording**
**statistical information.**
**AFB continue to improve our warehouse**
**operations and have to thank the**
**volunteers who have come in and have**
**worked hard to increase efficiency and**
**have been encouraged to implement**
**measures with our full support.**
**AFB have no concerns over the short**
**term finances though at the end of 2024,**
**we would need to find a source of**
**funding to cover our employee costs**
**after April 2025.**|
|---|---|---|
|Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held|Para 1.22|**A reserves policy has been agreed by**
**the Trustees and it was felt that we**
**should endeavour to maintain a balance**
**of at least £15000 in the bank account to**
**cover employment costs for at least 3-4**
**months plus other expenditure. **|
