itself unable to

Centre (ATC). Afewee found
itself unable to
deliver any of its extensive
programmes
at Brixton Recreation
Centre due to the National

which
had started
on 26ih March. Prior to the lockdown|| |||||||the ATC committee
had started
meeting
virtually
every two weeks|| |||||||to assess the fast-moving
situation
and to plan how to meet the|| |||||||needs of its members
during
the pandemic.|| |||||||In April both the football and boxing programmes
began to|| |||||||communicate
with the members
virtually.
Afewee Boxing started|| |||||||online kids training
for 5—16-year-olds to reconnect
with members|| |||||||and provide
physical
activity they could do at home. At the same|| |||||||time Afewee Football
set remote challenges
which could be|| |||||||carried out using household
objects easily available
at home.|| |||||||Schools throughout
the UK were closed, and outdoor activity was|| |||||||limited to one hour a day. The lockdown
hit young
people who|| |||||||trained
with Afewee 2-3 times a week particularly
hard. Being|| |||||||confined to the house was especially
difficult to those
living
in with|| |||||||overcrowding,
without a laptop or both. By May Afewee Boxing|| |||||||had launched
a service on lnstagram
live including
for the over|| |||||||18sand
in July
itwas able to start outdoor boxing and fitness|| |||||||sessions
in
Brockwell Park whilst
fully complying
with government|| |||||||guidelines.|| |||||||As the lockdown
entered
its last stages
in June ATC was|| |||||||successful
in its bid to join the Summer of Food and Fun funded|by| |||||||the Mayors Fund for London.
In July- August the SOFF was|| |||||||delivered
in The Milkwood
Community
Park with the help of a|| |||||||number oforganisations
including
the Milkwood
Road Residents|| |||||||Association.
35 young people from across the borough
attended|| |||||||the programme
which
ran over four weeks and
included
boxing,|| |||||||fitness, football, gardening
and talks: including,
from Afewee UK|| |||||||Champion
BoxerVivien Parsons. The programme
also provided|| |||||||prepared
meals and
essential groceries. The committee
would|| |||||||like to thank Amanda
Carter our volunteer
co-ordinator
who worked|| |||||||so hard to bring everything
together.|| |||||||Following
the success ofSOFF, ATC received a grant from the|| |||||||National
Lottery Covid Response
Fund to enable the club to|| |||||||support
members
during
the pandemic.
ATC looked forward
to|| |||||||going back to face-to-face training
during the Autumn
but instead|| |||||||the committee
found
itself grappling
with regulations
which|| |||||||changed
every few weeks and as volunteers
the pandemic|| |||||||stretched
the club to its very limits.
In October within guidelines|the| |||||||Boxing Gym opened
again and small group fitness and football|| |||||||sessions took place
in the Brixton Recreation
Center, only to close
again when the 2"' lockdown
came into force In November.|| |||||||In December ATC joined up Kitchen Social the food programme|| |||||||funded
by the Mayors Fund for London to give out food hampers|| |||||||over the Christmas
period and
it also ran a post-Christmas
food|| |||||||giveaway
outside
Brixton Recreation
Centre. On January 6'", 2021,
the count
entered
the 3" lockdown
