Coed y Bont is run by a management committee numbering 6-7 people. There are normally three formal committee meetings in the year including an AGM in April or May. The official positions are chairperson, secretary and treasurer who are elected or re-elected at the AGM. Coed y Bont is 25 hectare woodland near Pontrhydfendigaid which is part of the Welsh Government Forest Estate managed by Natural Resources Wales (NRW). In December 2012, NRW entered into a Management Agreement with a group of local people who formed a committee representing the community. This Agreement was extended to 12 years from 1 April 2014. It sets out the terms and conditions under which we can develop this area for the benefit of the community. We are currently in negotiation with NRW for a new Management Agreement starting in 2026. We liaise closely with the local NRW Forest Manager in all aspects of its work that impinge on the woodland. Coed y Bont became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2015, Charity Registration Number 1162376. CyB has policies in place covering: equality and diversity; health and safety; environment; children and vulnerable persons; the Welsh language; volunteering; and shared values. CyB is also an active member of Llais y Goedwig, the organisation that promotes community woodland groups throughout Wales and supports networking to share knowledge and experience. The vision was to create an attractive, interesting and quiet place that is free and open at any time for people to visit, where they can enjoy the woodland and its wildlife. We believe that this has been fully achieved and because the people in the local community have been heavily involved in making this happen it gives them an added sense of pride and ownership in their achievement. Local people regard Coed y Bont as an extremely valuable asset to the area and many visit it for walks on a daily basis. It is also a popular place for visitors and it is now on NRW’s own website that promotes visitor attractions at their woodlands in Wales. ## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)** **TAR** March **2012** 3 You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about: Volunteers from the local community help the charity in all sorts of different ways: acting as trustees, helping with the management group; organising and running events; designing producing and organising publicity material, being responsible for financial control and records; providing technical expertise on wildlife and woodland management; and carrying out the hard physical work that is required for the management and maintenance of the woodland and all the infrastructure facilities that we are installing. Volunteers work to provide facilities for organisations like the Cylch Meithrin and local primary school for children to experience outdoor education opportunities in a woodland environment. - policy on grantmaking; - policy programme related investment; - contribution made by volunteers. Any funds that are not required for Coed y Bont activities are deposited in the bank to gain interest ## Section D Achievements and performance **TAR** March **2012** 4 Section D Achievements and erformance p ## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** Achievements during April 2024 to March 2025 were: - The improvements made to Coed y Bont by the volunteers have encouraged the local Cylch Meithrin and Primary School to run outdoor education activities in the woodland for local children. - Volunteers continued to meet monthly to undertake general maintenance and improvements. - Coed y Bont once again received the Keep Wales Tidy Green Flag Award for 2024-25, giving continued recognition to the site as a well-managed public green space. - Coed y Bont continues to support the work of Llais y Goedwig. A representative attended the Llais y Goedwig stand at the Royal Welsh Show and the National Eisteddfod to promote community woodlands in Wales. The enthusiasm and keenness of Coed y Bont’s volunteers continues unabated. Sometimes the work is quite strenuous and physically demanding but people enjoy seeing the progress and improvements arising from their efforts. The charity continues to enjoy support from the local community. Many local people say how much they appreciate having the community woodland on their doorstep and are grateful for the work of the volunteers.
