Helping Hands for Education Charity Number 1162358 Annual Report: April 1, 2020-March 31, 2021

Helping Hands for Education was approved as a Charitable Incorporated Organization in June 2015 by the Charity Commission under the charity number 1162358. It is governed by a constitution last updated in May 2015.

Organisational Structure

The charity trustees are responsible for the general control and management of the charity. The trustees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits. The trustees meet together as a body on an ad hoc basis and are responsible for all decisions taken in relation to running the charity, including the recruitment and appointment of any new trustees and any capital expenditure.

Objectives

The charity’s key aims, and objects are to advance the education of children and adults, in particular those living in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Nigeria, by the provision of:

i) A public library specializing in educational books with a particular focus on English, Arabic, Islamic Studies, Mathematics, the Sciences, Information Technology and general works of reference;

ii) Classroom facilities and equipment including access to information technology for the general public;

iii) Such support to local schools as shall be thought fit including items, facilities, equipment and staff training in order to improve educational standards; and

iv) Such grants or scholarships to students under the age of 20 for such educational fees, courses, items and equipment as shall be thought fit.

Strategies and Activities

During the financial year 2020-2021, the main area of focus of Helping Hands for Education was to raise funds for our Nigerian sister charity, The Alawiye Foundation, to begin the construction of the library and educational centre for the use of the local schools and wider community and to continue to support the temporary library that is currently operating pending the construction of the permanent educational centre.

The charity has scaled down the collection of general textbooks and is now limited only to medical books and dictionaries.

Fundraising

Unfortunately, the pandemic has drastically curtailed our efforts in fundraising this year.

Nevertheless, we continue to use the Just Giving and YouTube platforms to solicit donations for the charity.

Plan for the Coming Year and Beyond

HHE is planning to commence the construction of the educational centre in Ogbomosho in the coming financial Year 2021-2022, God willing.
