RISIN

Tz Rising is a registered charity with the England and Wales
Commission #1162345.
Addresss: 3 Brick Row, Newry, BT34 3BQ, Northern Ireland
Tz Rising currently has six trustees:
Katie Rees (Chair)
Laura Murray
Cecilia Makundi
Caitlin Wale
Faye Jones
Maeve Hanna
The trustees meet every quarter to discuss activities and
objectives. Trustees have so far been recruited internally from
our volunteer community, but the charity looks to expand to
recruit externally to increase our Tanzanian representation in
the UK and experience.
TZ Rising has both a UK based Coordinator and Tanzanian
based Coordinator who oversee all activity within their
respective region, The charity is otherwise supported solely by
volunteers,

OBJECTIVES FOR 2020-2021
The main objectives of this period were:
1) To ensure the successful continuation of our education
prosramme with vulnerable young women In Moshi,
Tanzania
2) Limit spending both in Tz and UK so to increase the
longevity of our current funds.
3) Maintain media operations to remain in contact with our
community.
4) Ensure the safety of our community in Tanzania through
the ongoing Covid pandemic.

PERFORMANCE AGAINST OBJECTIVES
1) To ensure the successful continuation of our education
programme with vulnerable young women in Moshi,
Tanzania
The charity supported 19 women in this period studyins in
Secondary School, College, and University across Tanzania,
The charity successfully paid in full the school fees for each,
totaling £20,118, allowing each student to continue their
studies unaffected by the financial constraints created by
Covid pandemic.
b>

) Llmit spendins both In Tz and UK so to increase the
longevity of our current funds.
The charityPs flasship fundraiser, a UK 100 KM hike was
cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. Donated funds for
2021 totaled £20,881, a significant reduction from £69,175
collected in the prior year, In addition, the Charitys UK
coordinator had a period of leave due to personal illness, It
was therefore crucial to limit outsoinss to ensure existing
account balance could meet all upcomins education
programme fees until fundraising events could be
rescheduled,
Current Year/ Previous Year
Donation and Grants £20881/ £69175
Expenditure in Tz £20118/ £19140
Expenditure in UK; £96141 £24,206
As you can see we reduced expenditure in the UK successfully,
from £24206 to £9614, while Tz expenditure remained
approximately the same at £20118; which is essential as this
was only spent on our young women's education.

3) Maintain media operations to remain in contact with
our community.
Tz Rising's donor base is predominantly UK based, and
fundraising is by two main methods: individual supporters
throushout the UK completing challenge events or individual
monthly donors, Effective and consistent communications to
update and inspire our community is key to retaining
support for the charity,
As in-person meetings and events were largely not permitted
in the UK during this period, Tz Rising continued to keep in
contact with our financial supporters through email and
social media, predominantly Instasram.
We are satisfied that an adequate level of media
communication was maintained with our supporters, and no
long-term damage was caused by lack of in-person events.

4) Ensure the safety of our community in Tanzania through
the ongoing Covid pandemic.
The proactive steps Tz Rising had taken during the initial
outbreak of the Covid pandemic in 2020, allowed us to
maintain the wellbeins of our community in Tanzania during
2021 with no additional Covid-specific support required.
The additional support offered during the 2020 period
included but was not limited to;
Two Microfinance loans for two individuals to start new
businesses
Emergency accommodation for one family
Emergency food support packages

PUBLIC BENEFIT
Tz Rising operates to serve young women in poverty in
Tanzania.
The charity focuses on young women in difficult situations who
are striving for independence through education.
In this year, we supported 19 women on their journeys. 14 of
which are now in Third-level education at Collese or University
through Tanzania, and 5 who are in their last years of Upper
Secondary School.
Each young woman has been supported since she was a young
girl in Lower Secondary School. We focus on whole solutions
with each person, compared to helpins many children with
one issue. This means we can support each young woman with
not just Secondary School, but also College, applying for jobs,
and other issues such as healthcare, sexual health, food
support and so on.
This rounded support provides our students
with the best possible chance of success,

CHARITY HIGHLIGHTS
Two students, Magsy and Jacki, who have been enrolled in Tz
Rising's Education Programme from lower secondary school,
entered their final year of university, Being the first two of our
students to reach this significant milestone, it was a huse moment
for our charity.
2021 also saw a record number of 14 girls reach College or
University, A further 5 sirls in the programme are in their final year
of upper secondary school and plan to enter College or University
in 2022.

Balance
Donations in this period were significantly reduced from the
prior year, while school fees in Tanzania (expenditure)
remained approximately the same as the previous period,
Combined with continued spending in the UK, this led to a
deficit of-£8852 which was unsurprising and expected due to
Covid restrictions impact on planned fundraising. For this
reason, the charity endeavored to restrict spending (Objective
2) to ensure commitments to school fees could be met during
this period.
Importantly, Tz Risins ended 2021 with a total account balance
of £19,971 allowins the charity to continue to support our
Educational Prosramme commitments in 2022. It remains the
first and foremost objective of Tz Rising to see our students
continue on their educational paths towards
independence.
