The association is run by the president and three trustees, who control the activities undertaken via a general committee. This is made up of around eight members, including honorary secretary and honorary treasurer, who are normally elected or re-elected at the annual general meeting. One of the trustees retires at each AGM and a replacement is then elected.
Weather permitting, our Sailability fleet has sailed each week, mostly on Wednesdays, and has introduced many disadvantaged folk to the joys of Sailing. The two longboats have been busy and have always been escorted by our safety craft, “Aaron Lewis” whenever they are engaged in sessions afloat. More volunteers have been trained in basic boating skills, and some have gained vhf and instructor qualifications which will greatly add to our efficiency.
Our volunteers have done a remarkable job during the winter months, cleaning, painting and antifouling. At the time of writing, our safety boat has been launched and is ready to go. “Tenacity” would have followed this week, but for inclement weather, and “Clare Milne” our second longboat, should be ready to lower down the slipway in a couple of weeks.
Doubts about our ability to survive financially have been greatly reduced by generous grants received from the Clare Milne Trust and the David Gibbons Foundation. The Cattewater Harbour Commission has, as always, been most supportive in all sorts of ways. We are very grateful for the help and support received.
