Delivering Integrated Professional Midwifery<br>Services to build capacity and improve the<br>quality 24/7 reproductive, maternal and<br>neonatal services in 7 government health<br>centres serving a total population of 226,900,<br>of whom 53,500 are women ages 15-49;<br>4. Deploying a Visiting School Nurse to provide<br>primary healthcare and health education,<br>including age-appropriate sexual and<br>reproductive health, at 3 primary and 1<br>secondary schools in the mountains.<br>5. Providing Emergency Medical Evacuation<br>Services from remote mountain communities<br>in 4 catchment areas to local health centres;<br>6. Developing seven (7) health centres of<br>excellence with the necessary capabilities to<br>provide essential women’s healthcare.<br>7. Supporting the Debark Regional Hospital,<br>which is the only general hospital for the Zone,<br>with critical medical equipment and supplies,<br>specialist training, and technical assistance;|

The SMMMS clinic in Janamora provided<br>medical and health care to 6,956 patients,<br>including 132 deliveries, family planning for<br>829 women, screened 1,267 women for<br>breast cancer as well as health education for<br>15,610 local residents<br>2. Our five (5) mobile community nurse teams<br>provided general healthcare, including family<br>planning, immunisations, and screening for<br>malnutrition, HIV/AID, TB and malaria for over<br>8,419 patients, including family planning for<br>1,768 women and health education to 26,682<br>local residents;<br>3. SMMMS BSc midwives working in seven (7)<br>local health centres provided 5,970 antenatal<br>care visits, safely delivered 1,678 babies,<br>performed 1,889 postnatal care checks,<br>provided family planning for 7,319 women,<br>screened 174 women for cervical cancer and<br>6,656 women for breast cancer;<br>4. Our Emergency Medical Evacuation Teams<br>were called out 1,366 times to transport 531<br>expectant mothers for antenatal care visits,|





346 for deliveries and 263 for their postnatal check, as well as for 226 emergencies! 5. Under our “Health Centre of Excellence” project with the North Gonder Zone we accomplished the following: a. Established a Women's Healthcare Coordinator (WHC) to serve as a focal point for actions to improve capabilities including training, mentoring and evaluation. b. Established a Health Centre Mentoring programme with the Debark Hospital and the Zone for reproductive, maternal, neonatal and child healthcare (RMNCH). c. Trained and certified our WHC and two BSc midwives to be Health Centres Mentors RMNCH. d. Certified 24 midwifes with University of Gondar to provide BEmONC services at our clinic and the health centres we support. e. Implemented the first “one-visit” cervical cancer screening and treatment at three health centres and requisitioned mobile thermocoagulation devises for treating pre-cancerous lesions at each facility. f. Trained 12 midwives from our clinic and the health centres we support on prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDs. 6. Provided medical staff to the Debark Hospital Casualty Treatment Centre to provide emergency medical care for military and civilian casualties from the conflict and support to the UNHCR Internally Displace Persons Centre in Kulch-Meda.
