Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes
of the charity as set out in
its governing document
Para 1.17 ‘The objectives of Dementia Support
South Lincs are to promote and
encourage the physical, mental and
social well-being of adult persons who
have a diagnosis of dementia, or are
caring for someone with dementia, or
need information and/or advice
regarding dementia and who live within
the areas served by the main General
Medical Practices in Bourne, The
Deepings and Stamford, Lincolnshire,
through therapeutic support,
encouraging active engagement in
appropriate activities, and providing
information, guidance and support for
their families and carers’.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to
those purposes for the
public benefit, in particular,
the activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
Para 1.17
and 1.19
We focus on the person behind the
condition and their carer. We provide
information, guidance and support for
our beneficiaries by personal visits, a
quarterly newsletter, monthly support
meetings, and our website.
Up to mid-march 2020, we ran regular
activities for beneficiaries such as Art for
All, three monthly support groups,
Singing Together, which continued to be
well attended, and Tai Chi grew in
numbers. Due to Covid 19 we were not
able to restart any of our activities until
July 2021. In the year to August 2021
only nine sessions were possible.
We run a fortnightly day club for people
diagnosed with early onset dementia or
who are in the early stages of dementia.
Square Hole Club is our USP. There is
nothing else like it for younger or ‘early
stage’ people in the county – the nearest
is in Leicestershire. We are featured on
the Young Dementia UK website.
Up to March 2020, we held Dementia
Friends sessions to local
businesses/community groups. We help
to raise awareness every year through
talks and information stands.
Unfortunately, this year, due to Covid 19,
we were unable to hold a physical
presence in the community for Dementia
Action Week.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the
guidance issued by the
Charity Commission on
public benefit
Para 1.18 The trustees have had regard to the
guidance issued by the Charity
Commission on public benefit and are
satisfied that we comply with the
guidance.

Achievements and Performance

SORP
reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the
charity, identifying the
difference the charity’s
work has made to the
circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any
wider benefits to society
as a whole.
Para 1.20 The impact of Covid 19 was that from
Mid March 2020 all our activities ceased.
Up to that point we had both maintained
and expanded the service we offer to our
beneficiaries and to the wider
community. We continued to support our
members by regular phone calls giving
advice and contact or just a friendly ear
for a chat on social contact. We also
issued regular updates on our website
and Facebook with advice from other
agencies and Government updates. We
issued newsletters and kept our
members up to date on the situation
regarding recommencing our activities.
In July 2021 we restarted some of our
activities with almost full resumption
planned for September 2021.
We represent a ‘safe haven’ for people
who have received a diagnosis of
dementia [in its many forms], often being
the first contact in the community they
have at a very difficult time. We offer
friendship, and mutual support
opportunities as well as practical and
emotional advice and support. We
demonstrate to the wider community
what is possible for people living with
dementia, and how they can help, and
offer advice and support to community
groups in order to increase their
knowledge so that they can also find
ways tohelp our ‘family’ofbeneficiaries.

Performance of
fundraising activities
against objectives set
Para 1.41 We have met our objectives for
fundraising for this year. However in the
whole year our income from donations
and activities has been impacted by
Covid 19. In the year we received the
first two instalments of our grant from the
National Lottery Reaching Communities
Fund amounting to £20.500 and a grant
of £10,000 from National Lottery
Community Fund Covid 19 and £1,000
fromSouth Kesteven District Council.

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s
financial position at the
end of the period
Para 1.21 We are in a similar position to last year
due mainly to the continued cessation of
our activities and at the end of August
2021, the position was a surplus of
£25.2k for the year. We have received
total grants of £31.5k. It is difficult to
budget for the coming year due to
continued Covid 19 uncertainties,
however the potential shortfall of income
over expenditure is circa of £10k in the
yeartoAugust2022.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 We aim to keep a minimum reserve of
our running costs that will be needed for
the following12 months.
Amount of reservesheld Para1.22 Our reserveswere £145.308 at 31st
August 2021. The increase was mainly
due to the increase of grants, which have
not been fully spent due to Covid
restrictions.

Para 1.24 N/A

Para 1.23 We are operating in a very difficult
competitive environment with grants
being more difficult to achieve. But we

achieving grants of £31.5k in the year to
August 2021 of which £10k related to
Covid19 support.

The charity’s principal
sources of funds (including
any fundraising)
Para 1.47 Our principal sources of funding in year
to August 2021 have been mainly from
grants from National Lottery. Donations
from the public were down on prior years
due to Covid 19. In March 2020 we were
awarded a grant from the National
Lottery Community Fund for 3 years
amounting to £62,300 in total. Due to
COVID-19 the start of this project has
been delayed and the first grant
payments were received in year ending
August2021.
