OUR OBJECTIVES

REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Throughout the year we have maintained the charity, the club is in a good place from a membership point of view and remains financially sound having fulfilled all of the year’s objectives.

In early January we were able to put on a masterclass with BJJ blackbelt Daniel Lewis and former GB Judo international Caroline Kinnane. This was of great value to the members and was attended by local players from surrounding clubs.

In February we took a squad of adaptive judo players to the Olympic training centre where coaches Matt, Trevor and Carl were invited to run a national training event.

The British schools championships took place in March, this was a very successful event with Gold medals going to Albert Newbury-Kemp, Daisy Connor, Skye Westwood, Silvers going to Evie Halvey Jacobs and Roberta Anton and bronzes for Jamie Leroux, Sophie Rush and Matthew Morley.

In April we sent Evie Halvey-Jacobs and Lewis Fryer out to Northern Ireland for the Open, Both got to the final and took silver medals, This cemented Lewis Fryers selection for the European Youth Olympics. Michale Fryer was crowned English Open Champion with Alex Jenkins taking Silver.

Another landmark achievement for the club, Michael Fryer won a senior European Bronze medal in the Malaga Open in Spain. This was the first international medal by a player we funded from a beginner to a top 50 player in the world.

In June Lewis Fryer and Amy Platten travelled to Italy for GB training camp. This was preparation for the Commonwealth Games.

The British teams’ championships took place in July, Laurie was selected to be a coach for Northern Home Counties. The club was represented by Lewis Fryer, Evie Halvey Jacobs, Sam Collins and Alex Jenkins. The Boys team took silver and the girls team took bronze.

Also in July we put on a beginner competition for our young players and local clubs. It was a huge success with lots of young people actively engaging in competitive sport.

One of the best nights at the club when after 13 years the Adaptive judo senior class were awarded their black belts and join the clubs roll of honour. Stephen, Thomas, Matthew, Michael, Paul, Christian, Callum and Harry take a bow.

Lewis Fryer represented Great Britain at the European youth Olympics and Sam Collins, Tom Lish and Alex Jenkins represented their country at the European University Games.

August was a monumental month whereby Amy Platten competed and won bronze at the common wealth games. Her fights were broadcast live on BBC tv.

We sent a huge squad to the Adaptive Judo British Championships. Golds for Skye, Stan, Thomas, Paul, and Harry, silver for Christianl, bronzes for Henry and Matthew.

September was the English championships, Gold for Jamie Leroux, silver for Roberta Anton, bronzes for Jessica Rush, Sophie Rush and Tiernan Carter.

In October we added two more qualified coaches to our team, Carl Walker and Steve Temple. Both have come through the club from white belts !

At the end of the month Lewis Fryer took a bronze medal in Bremen, Germany. This was a huge result at one of the worlds toughest events. On the same weekend his brother Michael took bronze in Perth< Australia.

In November Matthew Rush, Skye Westwood and Stanley Walker travelled to the Asia and Oceana Games in Australia. The was incredible and skye took gold whilst Stan took Silver. This trip was funded by the club.

The year was rounded off in December with the British Championships. It was one of the best years for the club with Michael Fryer taking Gold, Lewis Fryer, Roberta Anton and Jamie Leroux taking silvers with Jessica Rush and Jemima Cadge taking bronzes. A great way to finish off another big year for the club.
