## **Trustee Report for the Year Ending 31st December 2023** Registered charity number 1162246 

North Shields Spiritualist Church is a Church which is affiliated to the Spiritualists National Union who are our governing body. The Church Members elect a group of Members to run the Church on their behalf. The elected group of Trustees are known as Committee Members. Members can nominate themselves for positions on the Committee once they have been a Full member for 12 months. 

Having sold our previous out-dated premises at Stanley Street West, North Shields in 2022, we purchased no. 52, Howard Street, North Shields on 11[th] August 2023. The building will soon be undergoing renovation, with alterations and safety features essential for use as a church and we hope to move into our new Church by early summer. We are actively fundraising towards the mortgage required to meet the cost of the works. 

We continue to hold public services at Balkwell Community Welfare Centre on Heaton Terrace in North Shields. Our activities during the year included 2 or 3 Divine Services of Public Worship per month which include a short open Spiritualist Healing Service. There is no charge to come into our public services of worship, but we do accept donations towards the hall hire. We hold one Evening of Mediumship per month with a charge of £3 on the door as a method of fundraising. We hold one Open Circle per month, which is very popular, as it gives developing mediums the opportunity to practice in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Our Members’ Development Group meets twice each month. 

The purpose of our Church and charity is to promote the philosophy of Spiritualism based on the 7 Principles of our religion. All of our services include an address which gives upliftment to all of the congregation, mediumship which give comfort to the bereaved, and a Spiritualist Healing Service gives absent healing to the sick and those in need. These activities benefit the members and general public who attend every week. 

The Church had 31 Full Members (including 3 Honorary Members) and 4 new associate members at the year end. Attendances at services have been variable, averaging at 40. 

It has been an excellent year financially. We were able to afford the new premises with some assistance from the Spiritualists’ National Union and are confident that our income will cover repayments on the mortgage from the SNU Trust. 

We look forward to celebrating the 140[th] anniversary of Spiritualism in North Shields in April 2024.
