## **Section B Structure, governance and management**

## **Description of the charity’s trusts**

Type of governing document

Constitution

- (eg. trust deed, constitution)

Charity Incorporated Organisation How the charity is constituted

- (eg. trust, association, company)

Appointed by Founder and on recommendation and or application with Trustee selection methods relevant experience or affinity with the objectives of the charity. (eg. appointed by, elected by)

## **Additional governance issues (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant, about:

- policies and procedures adopted for the induction and training of trustees;

- the charity’s organisational structure and any wider network with which the charity works;

- relationship with any related parties;

- trustees’ consideration of major risks and the system and procedures to manage them.

The Charity develops and works with other organisations with similar objectives and goals, and operate within the global sphere of human and social development, education and alleviation of poverty through social and economic empowerment.

Though working primarily in Sierra Leone and the UK, the charity also seeks collaborative partnerships outside of these regions, especially with other organisations with similar objectives promoting the Christian faith, alleviating poverty, education, child protection and safeguarding.

The Charity also works closely with local and international organisations in Sierra Leone to deliver its objectives, as this has been an effective and cost saving approach which enables the charity to reach more people and have more impact.

We have continued to work closely with the British High Commission (SL) Operation Orphan in the UK, Elim Swanley (UK) and Amigoes de Sierra Leona (in Spain).

## **Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**

The relief and/or prevention of poverty in particular (but not exclusively) in Africa

The advancement of education in particular (but not exclusively) in the United Kingdom and Africa; and

The advancement of the Christian faith.

When planning our activities, the Charity has taken into account the Commission’s guidance on Public Benefit, in particular the guidance on charities for the advancement of religion.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

This reporting period has seen many changes for the charity in that it is now actively working to establish a Vocational Qualification institute for at risk youth who would otherwise be caught in the criminal cycle having not been given the opportunity to access Higher Education. This is mainly focused in partnership with the Agricultural sector and training is mostly around sustainable agriculture and small machinery operation and maintenance.

The charity continues to employ an active approach to contact tracing and during this reporting year was able to reunite 2 children with families in their respective communities.

Home Church was has grown and continue to meet at the school premises which has impacted the charity’s evangelical activities in the community.

The charity also continues to see an increase in school enrolments in Sierra Leone, and whilst effective community work in UK schools has reduced due to unavailability of volunteers, the charity has maintained close ties with its Elim roots and church affiliations.

No volunteers were able to visit the charity’s work in Sierra Leone; however regular updates and on-ground work from one of Charity’s trustees have ensured Charity’s objectives are ongoing.

**Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)**

Our volunteers are members of the public who are passionate individuals from all walks of life, and who want to be involved in building their communities and other nations outside their immediate influence.

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

- policy on grantmaking;

- policy programme related investment;

Volunteers are unpaid (except for expenses where applicable), and we are proud of their invaluable contribution to our work; however as stated above none were able to visit the Charity’s project during this reporting period.

We do not currently operate as a grant-making organisation as this is not part of our objectives or constitution, and this remains the case for the foreseeable future.

- contribution made by volunteers.
