**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document** 

**The object of the Charitable Incorporated Organisation is the proclamation and furtherance of the Gospel of God concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord and the preaching and teaching of the Christian faith at Main Street Community Church and elsewhere in accordance with the Declaration of Faith set out in the schedule to the constitution.** 

**The Trustees ensured that the work we carried out was consistent with the guidance from the Charity Commission on public benefit and with our charitable aims and objectives.** 

**Main Street Community Church believes that the Christian faith is proclaimed through action as well as by words. Our activities over the year have continued to demonstrate that belief and were conducted so as to be open to the community in which we are situated, regardless of whether beneficiaries consider themselves to be members of the church or not. The name “Main Street Community Church” was chosen to reflect our involvement in, and support for, the community in which we are situated.** 

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** 

**1. Our Church premises are registered as a place of religious worship and regular services were held on Sunday mornings throughout the year. All services are open to all. Our premises have also been used for funerals and blessings of infants and have frequently been open to provide space for private prayer and reflection. We also run weekly evening and daytime bible study and discussion groups.** 

**2. Although the current age profile of the church membership means we no longer run weekly Sunday School classes (Sunday Clubs) and ‘all age’ worship services we have continued to present Christian beliefs concerning Christmas and Easter through running Christmas and Easter Journeys, which were attended by pupils from around 15 local primary schools, and which are recognised as supporting the schools in their delivery of the RE curriculum.** 

**3. We provided support for elderly people within the community through activities, including (i) providing services of worship in local nursing homes and care homes, (ii) assisting elderly people to attend our own services, if they wish to do so, (iii) running a fortnightly ‘Friendship Group’ where elderly people meet for tea, conversation and other activities.** 

**4. We have provided facilities for other organisations to conduct activities that we regard as consistent with the practical application of Christian beliefs, for example the Alzheimer’s Society’s Singing for the Brain and the weekly Memory Café.  Our facilities are also used on a regular basis for rehearsals by the One Voice Community Choir.** 

**5. We have made grants and provided practical support to a wide range of other organisations, including those engaged in (i) spiritual education of children within local schools, (ii) poverty relief and community development at home and in developing countries,** 

**6. We play an active part in Churches Together in Frodsham working together with other churches in the Town on events and initiatives throughout the year including work in local schools and the holding of joint services.** 

**7. We provide pastoral care, visiting and caring for those who are unwell or facing difficult times, and their families.**

||No formal policy on reserves has been<br>adopted but our normal approach is to<br>maintain reserves of around 50% of<br>annual expenditure which the trustees<br>regard to be a prudent but not<br>excessive amount.  However, as a<br>result of some large donations in the<br>previous year, reserves are currently<br>running somewhat above this.|

The principle source of income is from donations from members of the Fellowship.  Wherever possible income tax is reclaimed from these donations under the Gift Aid scheme. Income is also received from regular coffee mornings which also act as part of the wider outreach of the Church to the local community.  We also receive some income from other groups that use our premises, which contribute to the running costs of the building.
