Talking Hands Deaf Children and Young People Service
A year has flown by since the restrictions have been lifted. However it has been a slow recovery of members reuniting since Covid ’19 and how it has impacted on family life. We hope that our provision has helped our families to come together, it has been a long process to get to where we are today with the number of attendances increasing slowly.
With support from fundings and donations. our provision continues we are developing activities to reach wider areas to bring families together, with weekly and sessional trips. In addition, a new satellite group established in Powys, we are excited to see the expansion of our provision and reaching to more families in Wales.
We are pleased to have additional project worker on board working closely with our project development worker and building on the programme to connect families where possible across South and Mid Wales. It is the hoped that using our resources, workers and volunteers, we will build a bigger area of families to network with Deaf children and their families’ Deaf parents with hearing children who can connect and develop a wider community support that is a gap in Wales today.
Our thanks go to the Trustees for their commitment and voluntarily work overseeing the charity, supporting the staff and making time to deal with business throughout the year. We have been very lucky to have volunteers who have come to help in running activities not just delivery but setting up activities, keeping people informed, supporting each other and keeping our equipment in good working order so we are able to use it for long as possible.
Lastly and importantly our thanks to the people who help fund us Children in Need, local organisations and parents who have fundraised to helps us to build our services across Wales. It has been a tough year for our families with financial rising living costs so your support is even more meaningful.
Lastly, but most importantly our thanks go to the families for your continued support, jumping in and taking on board roles to help run activities and making memories of days with Talking Hands, welcoming new members and making a great home for everyone to enjoy their time together.
