## Achievements and performance

Report on Dog Movements – YE 30.04.2023 **Summary of the main achievements of the charity** 134 dogs were admitted to ADIN and 99 dogs were adopted during YE **during the year** 2023.

Including: -

8 Staffordshire Bull Terriers and Staffy Crosses 31 Crossbreeds 8 Sighthounds 51 Huskies, Labradors, Sprockers, Border Collies, Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, Cockerpoos, American Bulldogs, Lhasa Apsos, Old Tyme Bulldogs, Yorkshire Terriers, Patterdales, Jack Russells, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Akitas, Beagles, Presa Canarios, Bullmastiffs, Pugs, Bichon Frises, a Tibetan Terrier and a Coton de Tuelar. 15 Dogs returned to the rescue that had been adopted previously either due to ill health of the owners, death of the owners or a change in circumstances.

4 Dogs transferred to our Long Term Foster Program.

- 17 Dogs available at YE 30.04.23.

Long Term Fosters

- 23 B/fwd 4 Transferred in (13) Died 14 C/fwd

An example of our work:

- Two young English Bulldogs found dumped under a bush in March 2023 aged approximately 8-9 months old. They were not microchipped, severely underweight, suffering from mange and cherry eye. They went in to separate foster homes (as the last thing we wanted was puppies). They gained weight, muscle and had successful cherry eye operations. They have now been adopted in to 5-star homes.

- We were asked to help rehome a 9-year-old blind dog originally brought over from Romania 5 ½ years earlier. He had not been walked for 3 years due to his owner’s ill health. He has now been adopted by a fabulous family where he now goes on enriching walks.

- We were asked to take in a young dog who had an unexpected litter of puppies at just a few days old. The owners felt unable to cope and signed mum and pups over to us. They were rehomed during the year.

- We were approached to take in a pregnant Pug. She gave birth to two puppies Unfortunately; one did not make it but the other thrived. Mum and pup have now found their forever homes.

## Achievements and performance

## **Financial review**

**Brief statement of the** All monies coming into the rescue are prioritised for the major expense of **charity’s policy on reserves** veterinary bills. We aim to keep a cushion of between £8,000 to £10,000.

**Details of any funds materially in deficit**

Not applicable

**Further financial review details (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about:

- The charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising).

Our only source of funding are fundraising activities and a nominal adoption fee for the dogs.

We run a weekly Facebook auction which raises between £400 and £600 per week.

- How expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity.

- Investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.

## **Other optional information**

It was during this period that the true impact of the dog ownership increases from COVID 19 became fully apparent. It was an exceptionally busy and demanding year for the trustees and committee, as numbers of requests for relinquishments exploded.

ADIN had not previously logged the number of requests for assessments, including out of area requests, but began to do so in November 2022 when we saw a concerning trend. In that month we were asked to take some 39 dogs and in December a further 24 dogs, a significant number of which were very young, many under 1 year old. This did not reflect our previous pattern of requests.

Sadly, this trend continued into 2023 with the first four months seeing requests for 28, 34,34 and in March a disturbing 50 dogs. Relationship breakdown, housing issues and owner ill health were commonly cited reasons for rehoming. At the same time, we noted a significant drop in the number of requests for adoption/home checks as we moved into 2023.
