The charity operates Judo and Ju Jitsu clubs across the South West. The club’s objectives for 2023-2024 were to: - Attend a community event to promote judo - Rebuilding the clubs (Hanham & Pill) - Hold a ‘bring a friend along’ night (Hanham Judo) - Hold the Annual Awards Ceremony - Hold a charity fundraising event for the benefit of local charities (Bristol Autism - Support) ## **Achievements and Performance** The Trustees confirm compliance with public benefit guidance. ## **Key Achievements** - **Overview** - During the year, the club focused on rebuilding membership, strengthening governance, and maintaining high standards of safeguarding and coaching. While overall participation remains below previous levels, particularly at Pill and Hanham. Targeted initiatives have begun to stabilise and support future growth. - **Membership and Development** - Rebuilding membership has been a key priority. Initiatives included “bring a friend” sessions, and the introduction of a four-week free trial for new starters at our Hanham club, which has generated initial uptake. Due to lower numbers, junior classes at Hanham were consolidated to maintain sustainability. - **Community Engagement and Fundraising** - A highlight of the year was a successful charity fundraising day, raising £1,800 for Bristol Autism Support through a full day of martial arts activity. The club also celebrated its 30-year anniversary in September 2023 with a well-attended event, combining community engagement with fundraising. - **Coaching and Safeguarding** - The club has maintained a strong commitment to safeguarding and coach development. All coaches, trustees, and committee members have completed safeguarding training, with refresher training scheduled on a three-year cycle. First aid and additional awareness training have also been completed where required. Paul Thomas continues in his position as Safeguarding Lead. - **Governance** - Governance has been strengthened through the election of two new Trustees at the AGM, alongside the re-election of the existing three Trustees. Training records and compliance documentation are maintained and regularly reviewed. - **Additional Achievements** - The club supported member development through external training opportunities, including seminars at Yawara Kwai, Redditch. A “Vision and Values” workshop programme was also delivered, resulting in a shared framework to guide the club’s future direction.
