It is governed by a Foundation Constitution last updated in March 2020. ## Activities and objectives ## The Bus Stop’s objects are: To advance the Christian Faith and to promote community development. This will be achieved in particular but not exclusively by a) working in partnership with local churches and other agencies to provide youth and community provision b) working in partnership with local schools to provide education on the Christian faith c) creating a safe space that will allow young people to explore issues of life and faith d) using our double decker bus for any other charitable activities which the trustees shall think fit, in line with these objectives. The Bus Stop works with local churches and other agencies to provide youth and community services and to further the Christian faith. We use our double decker bus to facilitate youth groups, and to create a safe space that allows young people to explore issues of life and faith. Our youth workers train up local volunteers so that the bus can eventually move on to a different area, leaving the new youth group running independently. Our youth workers also mentor individual young people in partnership with local schools. When planning our activities, the trustees have considered the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit, and in particular, the specific guidance on charities for the advancement of religion. The Bus Stop 17 June 2021 ## Achievements and performance in the year ending August 2020 During 2019 and until March 2020 we continued to work regularly with Flamborough Methodist Church, Holy Nativity Church Eastfield, Burniston Methodist Church, Churches Together Pickering and St Martin’s Seamer. It was a joy to regularly welcome up to 25 young people on our bus each time, running sessions around issues of life and faith and offering pastoral support and prayer. It was amazing too to see the confidence in our volunteers grow with coaching from our staff. Flamborough Methodist Church began running youth work on their own every fortnight within their Church building, with the bus visiting in the in-between weeks. It has been a privilege to see them grow in their work with young people and to walk this journey with them. Over the summer months in 2019 we were able to use the bus at summer festivals and events including two weeks at New Wine, weekly events in Bridlington, and Belfrey Youth Festival. It was an absolute joy to see so many young people and to see God working powerfully in their lives. Just as we were about to embark on youth outreach with some new church partners, COVID-19 hit. During the height of lockdown, this obviously put a huge pause on much of our work. Even as youth work has begun to open up again, social distancing would be impossible inside our youth equipped double decker bus. During this time, our workers Rosie and Isaac have adapted well by moving some of their work online. Rosie runs games and activities on our social media channels to engage with young people who are struggling with staying at home. Both workers also run social media engagement with groups of young people who previously attended the bus, in particular those in Eastfield. As restrictions have begun to lift, we have started to meet with our Church partners to explore how together we might be able to support young people during this time. We also want to prepare early for how we may support young people during the coming winter months, when cases are likely to rise and we may be unable to meet indoors again. We began to explore with a group of churches the idea of beginning detached youth work in the areas where the bus would usually park. This idea has been supported strongly by Pickering Churches Together and Holy Trinity Church Eastfield, who will both be ready to begin the project in September. We are so looking forward to being able to support young people face to face again this autumn. It will look different to our usual work, in particular missing a bright purple bus, but being able to meet, welcome and support young people during this time will be fantastic. Charity Number 1161945 page 2/7 The Bus Stop 17 June 2021 ## Financial Review The Accounts run from 1 September 2019 to 31[st] August 2020. We had £10,271 at the start of the year and £16,679 at the end. Although Covid-19 meant that we couldn’t do face-to-face youth work from April to August, we were able to reclaim most of our workers’ salaries from the government. As salaries are one of our biggest expenses, this has meant that, financially, we have not been too badly affected. ## Receipts We had around 20 people giving regularly by Standing Order which is brilliant; those kinds of donations are really helpful for us. Some donations have been affected by Covid-19 as people find themselves unable to give. We had £1,095 given to us in the form of one-off donations from individuals and churches. We had some large grants from the North Yorkshire Methodist Circuit, The Belfrey, Two Ridings, All Churches Trust and The Willats Trust, as well as some excellent fundraising efforts and smaller donations. The churches who used the bus paid £11,171 in total for that, which doesn’t cover the cost of the bus and youth workers but does go quite a long way towards it. ## Payments The biggest outgoing is salaries – Rosie, Isaac and Jo. We paid £1,000 for our intern, Jess, to do training through Scripture Union. This was covered in part by Jess’ own fundraising and by Emily’s donation from the sale of the York Bus. Bus resources and youth activities are items such as cleaning equipment, beanbags, a games table, and a football table, a microwave, and lots of food. ## Restricted Fund Some of the donations we have received have been specifically for the East Coast, but this year we have only been working on the East Coast, so we have put all that money towards Rosie’s salary. St Martins church in Seamer have paid us in advance for their sessions so that money is set aside for them. ## Assets/Liabilities If we look at what we had in the bank, add in what was owed to us and take off what we owed, we’re left with £18,281 at the end of the year. ## Accounts Examiner We aren’t required to get our accounts officially audited, but we get them Examined by Fawley Judge & Easton.
