THE JIGSAW CLUB Year 2023 (1"Januaryto 31° December 2023) Annual Report and Audited Accounts Charitycommission Number: 1161907 Purpose: We are a club based in Flthvick, Bedfordshire providing social needs for disabled people. We have been in existen for over 48 years and currendy have over seventy members of all ages and disabilities. We meet once a fortnht at FI11ck Village Hall and provide a varied programme of entertainment. as well as Infomiative evenings that are of benefit to disabled people. We own three ambUlanS which we use to collect our members from their homes to bring them to our meetings and to tske them home again. We also use these vehicles to tske our members on various outs'ngs including trips to garden centres and the pantomime at Christmas All our volunteers are unpaid who give up their time freely to help make a difference to people who would otherwise be isolated in their own homes. Throughout the year various charity events are organised to raise funds to enable us to deliver events, trips and activib'es for our members as well maintaining and upkeeping the arnbulans which play an important part of the charity. Our dub has continued to grow. we now have a total of 74 names on our register which includes helpers as well as members. We have welcomed 8 new members during 2023. We have also sadly lost 3 members during the same period. One of these members was a founder member of Jigsaw club vtho helped to establish the club in 1976. Our COndonS go to their families and may they rest in pea. Unfortunatety, one of our member5 no longer comes to jSaW Club because they have moved to Shefford. This particular member a sterling job in raising fvnds for the Club and over several years raised hundreds of pounds. Many thanks for their support. During April 2023 Agate House, Ampthill (Leonard Cheshire Homes) closed which resulted in residents who lived Ihere needing to be relocated. Sadly some of these members who were Jigsaw Club members could no longer attend for logistical purposes. Fortunately. this did not apply to one resident of Agate House who continues to live in Ampthill and happily attends Ouf meetings. Our programme throughout 2023 has been wide and varied, a mixture of old favourites alongside new items. The old favourites have been entertainment by Parkside Singers and Ampthill Singers, excitement at Ascot on Ra Night, Ampthill Town Band playing for us, we've played Bingo, racked our brains wtth one of our members Quiz, played a variety of games. enjoyed visits from Inner )eel, and of course had our Pub Night Out and a members lunch at the Cross Keys in Pulloxhill. This year we also cheered local Morris Dancers, sat in awe when Mike and Ness told us about their lives, experience and development of their Indusive Fami in Steppingley which they own and run. Listened to a guest speaker who presented a fascinating insight about the Orphanage in Nepal. with which she is involved as well as having a wonderful day out in September in London for our Summer Outs'ng. This included a cockney aftemoon aboard the °Tereza Joanne. where members had lunch, sang. waved flags, and dand to a wide selection of Cockney songs. The above programme of activities was organised by the Jigsaw Club Secretary and his hard work and commitment to providing a variety of interests.ng topics, activities and trips has been duly appreciated by Jigsaw Club members. Treasurer's Re The final accounts for 2023 have been audited by Chades Goldthorpe and all transactions have been agreed and signed off. We ended the financial year viith a very healthy combined bank balances of £29.180.02. made up of £2,136.44p in our current account and £26,760.58 in our business reserve ac)unt. We also have £283 in floats and money waibng to be banked.
The report gives a breakdown of the figures that have bn audited. It shows how money was raised (reipts) and how it was spent (payment ath-vities). While it might appear that some activities only made a small profit or even ran at a loss, additional monies accumulated al these events are included, for audibng under different headings, for example in raffles. heads and tails, members donab"ons, individual donations and corporate donats'ons. Recei Our biggest receipt this year. thanks to the Club Secretarys hard work, was the grant from Grantscapelcovanta for £28,000 towards a new vehicle, however the cost of the new vehicle was £39,000. This p1ad the oklest of our exisb.ng vehicles which we were able to sell for £3.000. The remaining £8,0 was funded from the fundraising activib'es trt the committee organised throughput the year As always, we started 2023 the January lunch organised by orE of our long standing members that raised £1,200. We also had a very success1 Elton John tribute night organised by the committee that raised £1.527 and a joint quiz night with Houghton Conquest Care Group in Houghton Conquest Village Hall, raising £770. A new event that was added to our fundraising calendar this year was the tsvo coffee momings held at Flitsyick Village Hall. these raised £530 and a coffee morning at a committee members house raised £406. We also raised £190 with our stall at the Ampthill Gala and £182 at Ampthill Lights Switch On. East Beds Charity Cricket Shield contsnued to support us wtth a donats'on of £500. Flilwick Vak Rotary Club donated a very generous £2,000 and Ampthill Fireworks £1,000. The Wingfield Club in Ampthill also raised £1.000 for us and Maulden Players gave us £260 donation. A local resident did a sponsored run and donated all their sponsorship money of over £1,500 to the Jigsaw Club and John Lewis gave us a grant of £500. Gift 'd this year from HMRC came to £750. Central Beds conts'nue to reimburse us for the fees for Ihe hire of Flthick village hall which for 2023 was £1,038. In addition to these large amounts our loyal 'Fnends' continue to make generous donations and purchase ts'ckets for our fijndraising activib'es and take part in raffles supplemented by the clubs secretsry's ever popular heads and tails. All of the members contribute to the Jigsavls Club income by makirKJ donats'ons towards our refreshments and transport and buying raffle tickets at eath meets'ng. Payment Activlty: Running and maintaining the three vehides was the biggest expenditure of 2023 at between £1,500 and £2,CMJO a vehicle, this is just to keep them running and roadworthy. The responsibility for ensuring the roadworthiness and Maintenan of the vehicles is undertaken by the main drivers, who ensure the vehicles are always safe for the members vtho use them for transport. In total we spent £17.175.00 on the three vehides which included three lots of Insuran and the £8,000 that we put towards the new vehide. We also have indemnity insurance which costs £414.92 which covers public and product liability and accidents to people and property at
meetings and outside events. Our two popular events. the pub night out and the members lunch at the Cross Keys in Pulloxhill. was paid fijlly out of Jigsaw funds at a total of £1,993 for the two events. Other events such as the summer outing and pantomime are funded by members donations wrth a subsidy from Jigsaw fvnds. The accounts were closed and prepared for audit at the end of 2023 and showed a healthy total assets of £29.180. The committee have decided to ring-fence £1.000 to go towards our 50th anniversary celebrations and £5,000 towards a vehicle replament when it is needed. In 2024 these figures wll be increased by £1,000 arKI £S.000 respectively. Fundraising ReporL" on again fundraising during 2023 was a very busy year, raising fvnds for the club. The Chairperson's report has alreaty spoken about Ihe grant that we reiVed from Covanta whith enabled us to replace our older bus, which we used for the first time at the pantomime in January 2023. During 2023 we have had a variety of events that are tried and tested and some new ones. Different events attract different supporters, so it is important to keep a good variety of events. We always start the year with our fundraising lunch in Ampthill, Bedfordshire at the Masonic rooms which is always a sell out and a great success. with over eighty people attending. As ahvays. we have stalls at the Ampthill Gala in July 2023 and also the Lighis Swtch On in November 2023. Both evenls attract large numbers of people, and it is very worthwhile for Jigsaw Club representstives to be there. We have attended these two events over many years and many people regulady visit us either for the homemade sausage rolls, our llome-made cakes, or the egg game. Every Friday at Fliiw'ick Village Hall, tea and refreshments are provided as a service to customers visits'ng the local market. Jigsaw Club were afforded a new fijndraiser opportunity at this village hall on two occasions during 2023 to serve refreshments and provide homemade cakes, sausage rolls etc. together with a raffle. There is no charge, but customers a requested to give a donatson for their refreshments. The hall provides the tea, coffee, and sugar, all Jigsaw Club provide are the food and organise the raffle. Jigsaw Club are booked to hold hvo more of trSe FrKlay events during 2024. In June, one of the key helpers opened his garden to have a "Coronation. themed coffee moming, and Ihis was very SUCssful with many people attending. and all being very generoLJS Wth their donats'ons. All the refreshments aTrJ food were supplied by Jigsaw members and supporters. In October we had a tribute night at Parkside Hall in Ampthill, and we had "Elton John" as the act. Over 100 people attended and had a great time with a fish and chip supper which was excdlent.
Also, in the autumn we had a joint 'Quiz NFghf with Houghton Conquest Carers Group at Houghton Conquest village hall. This was a great night with the proceeds being shared beeen Jigsaw Club and the car8 Group. Audited Accounts (Follow on next page):
